I believe S&B filters manufacture both the "Macht Schnell" and "BMS" filter, and they used to produce the "Helene Streamline" filter also.
IMO, your best bet is buying the BMS filter. Highest quality and one of the lowest prices, where can you go wrong?

I'm currently waiting on confirmation from the manufacturer, S&B Filters.
However, if you look at pictures the build of the filter, they appear very similar.

As for the different colors of the filter, that's just the oil applied to filter. Identical to each other in every way except color.

Taken from http://www.sbfilters.com/Support/FAQ :
"4. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RED AND BLUE OIL USED ON A FILTER?

The color is the only difference between red and blue oil. You can purchase the Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit in either color and achieve the same great results."

Thx, mate. That's very helpful. Kindly keep me appraised of your findings. I am eager to dump the stock filter in exchange for one with better flow characteristics (do not believe in the dual open air intake thingies). If I get a CAI, it will be Dinan's or an enclosed one operating on a similar principal. Cheers

Anybody know which drop in filter is the loudest... AFE, Macht Schnell or K&N?

I really like the sound of the intake only wish it was a lot louder. Any suggestions?

BMC for me. Nearly every Formula 1 team using them, and I've seen an F1 filter up close and it looks identical (except in size...) to the BMC ones.

I am running a K&N here and haven't had any issues with it. There shouldn't be with any type of drop-in either unless it is over-oiled or has a manufacturing defect.

Went ahead and ordered the BMS filter (along with the USB cable needed for the JB3 2.0v upload). Terry did confirm, 'his' filters are manufactured by S&B.

Will let you guys know if there is any noticeable pickup in sound.

+1, I sent a new product notification request with K&N for when they develop a drop-in for the N55. All it'll do is send me an email if and when they develop one.

Tom and Nick, have you guys heard anything from aFe or MS on new filters for the N55? Is there really any difference in filter size between the N54 and N55?

I got the filter from BMS, the box comes directly from S&B Filters. Funny how the same filter can cost 50% more from one outfit to the other...

Not yet - but I'm sure they're coming soon.

With any of the drop-in filters, can you hear the DV?
It Might sound corny, but I like to hear the PSHHHT between shifts, and with no intake options for the N55 yet, I have no choice but to use a drop in.
