Non-DIY Spark Plug Replacement Question/Costs?

My 2011 135i only has 15K miles (about 4K by me - 1K with PPK1). As the second owner (not knowing what type of gas was being run) and never getting awesome gas mileage (>14 city - and not "pushing it" by any means - 15.5 avg per computer and falling) I was thinking about having the spark plugs replaced. Other than lower than expected gas mileage, I'm not having any other issues with the car (as far as I can tell). I'll obviously try to have the dealer replace them under warranty first, but if I need to have this done professionally (not in my skills wheel house), what would you expect to pay? And would this be advisable?

Thanks-
DctFan

well it's a 45min job which means that a independent bmw shop will charge you 1hr labor (yes, they always charge you extra) = $100. OEM spark plugs cost about $12 a peace x 6 = $72. Total = $172 + tax so just call it $180 for everything.

now, should you do it at 15K? i wouldn't. is the deal going to? probably not.....Not trying be mr. negative but it probably won't do anything as far as saving you MPGs. you better off changing oil every 5k, using a fuel injection cleaner every 2-3weaks, and keep it between 2-3k rpm between shifts.

an honestly 14 is not that bad.

Before doing anything I would check the mileage manually. The computers are know to give some strange readings.

Appreciate the feedback! I have no problem paying about $200.00 for the change -- but I think I will wait a while per the recommendation. I will also try to use some injector cleaner as well to see if that helps.

Thanks again-

That price is wishful thinking from a BMW dealer. I paid to have mine changed, and I supplied the plugs myself. I paid over 200 in labor alone. It was a RIP but that is what bmw does outside of warranty.

I drive like I stole it, and I get 19.2 average. Very little highway driving, JB4 N54. He should be getting better.

How many miles do you usually drive before refueling ? I sometimes see extremely low mileage (150miles ) and the fuel light comes on. I have Cobb stage 2 aggressive ..

Wish I could tell you the miles per tank, but I haven't been tracking them specifically. I"ll try to gauge this on my next fill-up.

Not exactly sure what impact running Cobb Stage 2 would be on mpg, but I would think it would be pushing more fuel into the engine to generate more power. But I could be totally off base on that.

+1 here... I get about 21mpg with lots of highway commute and about 19mpg on the weekends. Sounds like you might have issues, although with that mpg I would have suspected maybe a check engine light..but maybe not. I would consult the dealer.

My independent BMW shop charged me a little less than $200 for all new plugs.
