Evolve flash: great experience

Hi,

there are several tunes on the market for the 1M. Evolve was chosen by a friend as they have a great reputation, with the Evolve-R you can flash your car at home, there is no need to drive to a shop (which is especially handy if there is none around) and the Evolve-R has the ability to transfer the car back to the stock software at any time incl. the erasing of the error codes.
The price (currently 750 USD on their US website) is very competitive and no negative feedback could be found reading the reviews on internet.

Imran and Paul are both really nice and helpful guys and reply very fast to their emails
The process was very easy and straight forward. Imran took the order which was shipped the same day and arrived in Germany the day after

The box contains a USB stick (with the flash software and a manual) and a OBDII cable. So, read the manual, install the software, plug in the OBDII cable and read the ECU. This took about 50 minutes. No battery charger was hooked up, it was just made sure the battery was full and all consumers like radio, air conditioning, etc where switched of.
The file was sent by mail and the waiting started... but not for long, the file was sent back within a heartbeat
Laptop was hooked-up again, and the loading was as simple as the reading, just much faster, about 10-15 minutes. Easier it cannot be

The start button was pressed and the car fired up like normal. As mentioned in an other thread, the difference could be felt straight away.
The car is drivable in normal mode Stock the normal mode is very... vague, bad throttle response, difficult to modulate. With the Evolve flash it has a great pedal feel, much more progressive and great to modulate. So a big improvement in throttle response and drivability .
The power difference can be felt straight away, even in the passenger seat, the car pulls very strong at low revs.

After some driving on the German highway it got even a bit better. Several comparison pulls where done with my stock 1M against the Evolve tuned 1M with an AFE drop-in and a Wagner FMIC. Both cars are identically equipped and had the same wheels/tire combination.

To be honest... the difference was bigger then expected. The pulls where mainly 4th gear 110km/h up to 250km/h (70-155mph). During the first pull the Evolve 1M backed of because it looked like the stock 1M was in the wrong gear. But it wasn't
Starting the pulls next to each other, the Evolve M pulls away so hard (great torque ) that it easily can switch lane and move in front of the stock 1M before shifting into 5th. And it just keeps pulling away (Both cars where shifting at 6'000RPM) Several pulls where done, also from 80 in 3th, all with the same result. The Evolve 1M walks away from the stock 1M with ease. When driving "normal", on the highway there is barely a need to shift. You can leave it in 6th and it just pulls so strong from low revs all the way through.

During 120 miles of driving incl. German highway, there where no higher oil temps then normal.

So overall conclusion, there is nothing negative to say. Only positive experience with Evolve Automotive, great service, a great flashloader (Evolve-R) and a great tune

A dyno will follow in January by the way. Let's see the numbers, but based on the driving experience, the bump of 25-30hp published by Evolve is probably on the conservative side
Some dyno sheets of other 1M can be found here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=589524

Great review!! I am sure this will convince some people to make the jump towards the Evolve tune. There is no other true DME Flash out there that also allows you to read/clear OBDII error codes!!

Evolve tuned my E46 M3 and E90 M3. Rest assured, if I was fortunate enough to have an E82 1M, they would be the ones to tune it.

Keep us posted on how things develop. Enjoy the new power!

We have tuned many E92 M3's in China.

You have the option of the Evolve-R at the moment.

We are working on having a physical dealer there at the moment. Maybe 4 weeks away.

We tuned an E90 M3 last week in China, Beijing - owner said he was part of the club also.

Sorry for the hijack Marcel!

Was this tune different because you have a more efficient FMIC installed? It seems like you would want a different tune for stock vs aftermarket FMIC.

For just FMIC our Stage 1 map is used. Our Stage 2 map would be used if adding downpipes in addition to the FMIC.

Nice writeup Marcel. Do you have any photos of what the handheld device looks like? I am curious. Sounds like a solid tune. Once your put on 500 kms your tune will feel even better. It takes that long for the car to adapt.

You can see a picture of it in the listing here, looks pretty much like an OBD/USB cable: http://www.evolvetuning.us/bmw/1-ser...-ecu-tune.html

there is no real handheld. The software to read/write files is on a laptop which is connected by the provided cable to the OBDII port.

Ok, thanks guys. Its good to know there is another flash tune out there. I have been pretty happy with my flash tune. Not a single hickup or engine check light or code thrown in almost 30K kms of driving. That is something that those piggy tuners can say!

What do you guys think about all this talk that BMW can tell IF a car has been flashed? I think its BS. But I am curious about what BMW can tell when they scan a car with thier GT1 scan tool.

The Evolve-R can read and clear the DTC codes. As long as this is done there should be no problems. In 3 years of tuning this ECU/Engine I have not seen any reports of a dealer picking up a flash as long as these codes are cleared.

At the end of the day if BMW wanted to find something they could implement new methods to do this.

You have PM!

We do offer upgrades yes, we can tune for various levels, just let us know the mods and we'll make the appropriate level file.
