From Honda Paint to BMW Paint, what should I know?
As of yesterday I traded my 06 S2000 for a black 2012 135i with 6k miles on it and am loving it! But it needs a little love. It has been on the lot for about 3 weeks and has seen rain and plenty of heat. Detailing has kinda been a side hobby for mine for awhile and have seen great results with Meguiars products, however this has been on Honda's. I have such things as M105 and M205 and Meguiars sealants, clay bar and their DA buffer with plenty of pads. Can I expect the same results on BMW paint as I have on Honda paints? I am dealing with mostly watermarks and light swirl marks, probably from the dealer.

claying, waxing, and sealing is a wonderful thing. yes so far the paint has been good to me, as long as you maintain and baby it. then again, i have a black 135 that requires my undivided attention every two weeks

BMW paint can have some orange peel in it, but generally its quality paint that is durable. I wash my car weekly, wax it monthly, and do a full clay/sealant 3 times a year or so. Just keep it clean and itll treat you well.

Is you paint jet black or mettalic black? The jet is softer, metallic harder. I also use M105/M205 and have had great results. I have heard some Honda paints are fairly soft but my wife's metallic silver MDX is harder paint then my jet black. However, you just do a test spot (2 feet by 2 feet) and get out a light and inspect your work. I have done a full detail on a few different brands of cars. After the first pass I had a pretty good idea if I needed to work it a bit more or a bit less. I have used the M105/M205 for a few years and I have my technique down fairly well so I stick with that product. It has always given me good results. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the new ride.

I am praying for you it's not Jet Black. Worst color in the world of all colors on all cars. Just LOOKING at Jet Black will swirl it...

I used Megs 205/megs polishing pad with my PC a couple months back on the hood which is, thankfully, the dealer did their infamous hack job and left some nice Pokemon card holograms on it. The 205 cleaned it up but there were still 3 buffer trails left, I am assuming that 105 would have taken care of the business. But the 205 did remove the light swirls.
LMK if you have any questions. We might have the same arsenal as I also do this as a hobby.

BMW paint surface is much harder than Honda paints. Example Black S2K surface is very soft.

I can not comment on Honda paint as I have never owned a Honda. I can comment on Meguiar's Ultimate product line. By far the best products I have ever used. My Deep Sea Blue 135i and my wife's Carbon Black Mettalic Buick Regal look great. I also use the Ultimate wax on the wheels, followed by Ultimate detailer and have less problems with brake dust.

Nonsense - old wives tale. Here is my 2008 Jet Black and swirl free. You just have to take care of it properly,
