Noob Question On Wheel Tyre Width And Spacers

Hi All,

I hope some of you more experienced folks can help me out with some questions.

I am on square wheel setup now. 18" X 8" Offset 34mm. I'm using S Drive 225/45 all round. The front is flushed but the rears sinks inside the wheel well a little. Should I use spacers to get the rears to look as flushed as the front or should I use wider tires? I really like to have wider tires at my rears (245/40) but if I do so will the tires stick out more than the front?

How do I get the wheels to be flushed on front and back (like they are on the same plane) and use wider rear tires yet without them sticking out more than the front?

Please advise.

If you don't mind losing your square setup then I'd go with wider rear tires instead of spacers. Those offsets are pretty low and aggressive so you might rub in the rear depending on what brand tire you chose (I assume your suspension is stock height?). I guess you could run spacers for a while because I think I'd want to use those tires up and go to 225/40 fr and 245/35 r, probably with a Falken or Toyo T1R. Those brands run narrow and should be less likely to rub.

Thanks heaps for replying. Another question, I am thinking of getting Prodrive GC-5K wheels in 19 X 8.5 Offset 40mm all round. If I go with Falken 452s 225/40F and 255/35R, will I rub? Or even the Eagle F1s? There is a set on clearance in my local shop.

I drive a 130i with M sport package. Height is stock M-sport shock height.

I don't think that will rub but it will be close so might rub occasionally most likely only in the rear with passengers.

You'll be less likely to rub if you use lower profiles both front and rear. If you don't go with Falkens or Toyos then I'd go with 245 rears.

Alright. Will the AC Schnitzer 19" X 8.5" Offset 43mm be better than? I got a call and I could get that set too at a really good price. Will 225 f and 255 r rub you reckon? Thanks for your advise so far.

Here's a tool that allows you to plug in the size info (both tire and wheel), and get a calculation on the difference from your existing setup. Use a simple ruler to see how much space you currently have, to know if they will fit or not.

A 3mm better offset will help a tad. Both setups will work with the right tires, pick whichever you like better, if completely equal you may as well go with the better offset.

Alright, I have finally made up my mind on a set of BBS CS wheels. But I have a few questions that I hope some can help.

The wheel sizes are 18" X 8" with 40mm offset all round. I intend to use my current tyres which are Eagle F1 Asym 225/40 F and 245/35 R. Can I use spacers at the rear to get the rear to be flushed with the front? Will I have rubbing issues? What size spacers should I buy? 5mm or 10mm?

Now I'm using those tyres with OZ Ultraleggera 18" X 8" offset 34mm all round with no spacers and I occasionally get some slight rubbing at the rears if I drive over a dip on the road too quickly. Please advise. thanks!

Thanks for the link! So if I intend to add spacers for the rear I'll just add that to the offsets? So if I intend to add 5mm to the rear and the wheel offset is 40mm, I should key in 35mm?

Also, if front is 18" X 8" Offset 40mm and rear is 18" X 8" Offset 40mm with 5mm spacer will that look flushed with the front? Or will the rear still look more inset than the front?
