A diesel delivers the torque much differently from a gasoline engine. The peak value is around 2000 rpm, then it decreases which makes the acceleration decreasing or at most being constant until 4500 rpm. Of course modern diesel are really nice to drive thanks to the torque, especially in a SUV or a big sedan, but for me it just doesn't represent what I expect from a sportcar. The 335d is certainly the best diesel, but it costs 3100 euros (in france, for same base equipment except that 335d has auto trans standard) more than a 335i, 6.1 sec from 0 to 100 km/h VS 5.5 sec for 335i, and 31mpg VS 25mpg for 335i. So, you need to drive it a lot to overcome the 3100eur price gap with the fuel efficiency. And you still have a slower car, you miss the typical BMW gasoline inline 6 sound and have a car which vibrates at idle. Ok, the sound is not that bad and the torque sensations are funs but you miss something, and if you really seek fuel efficiency, a 330d is much much better for just 50hp less. Of course in France, Germany and other country of Europe, it makes sense because Diesel is 25% cheaper because of taxes, but in US, I don't really see the point of buying a sport car like the E92 in the 335d version. I often drive a 530d and a E46 M3 so I can quite compare the sensation (even if the M3 is much powerful), and I ve been driving mostly diesel since I can drive (I haven't got the choice), but my next car won't be a diesel for sure. btw, automobile forums in France often turns in fights between pro-diesel and anti-diesel, especially when it comes to 335i/335d, it's just funny. |

I am surprised that reporters/fans don't have a bigger problem w/ BMW not including the LSD as standard equipment. Before reading these forums I had been taking it for granted because my 3 previous cars (Camaro Z28, Silverado, Volvo S40) had the LSD standard (Volvo is AWD, so not technically LSD). Sounds like it is a pretty important piece of the "Ultimate Driving Machine."

Me too... Our clue will be if the 335s (sedan, coupe, & convertible) get LSD as an option for 2008. BMW Centers should be receiving 2008 Ordering Guides soon (end of June, first of July) 2008 production begins the 1st week of Sept. |

Also--with the 135--assuming it is a little detuned from what goes into the 335, are there any resolutions as far as the fuel pump goes? Will the second oil cooler that was missing on early E92's without the sport package be on all the 135's, or do you have to get the sport package in the 1er to get the second cooler? I am assuming more 1er owners will track their cars, so I hope that these problems are addressed before they become available for sale. Many people that have had fuel pump issues in their 335i E9X's have also had long waits for the "upgraded" versions to make it to dealerships--are there any improved plans as far as this goes? |

Without getting myself into trouble, let's just say that I have personally seen the 135i coupe, completely without camouflage and with everything included as announced to us by BMWNA.
BMW is not a company where it does not correct things once they find they need correcting. The cases with the fuel pump and the second oil cooler are known issues in which all recent productions have included these corrections.

I would like to know your impressions as well--does it look like the 1er at the top left corner of this forum? Because if it looks like that..... Based on the awesome performance numbers of the 335, we know it will be a screamer--I just hope they got the asthetics right... |

I can say it doesn't look like the photoshop image on the top of the page. Honestly, that image looks more like an artist's rendering of what the E92 M3 might have looked like.
In any case, there are many photos posted on this site that really show a good deal of what the new 135i coupe will look like. http://1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480 This shot of the gray test mule is spot on in terms of what the US-spec car will look like (save for wheels and the tape). They also told us 3 items that will come STANDARD on the US-spec 135i coupe: - Moonroof - M-Sport kit - Brembo front brakes (and after taking a closer look, 6-piston calipers to boot!!)

Could you get a feeling of how much smaller it was than the current E92 is? I'm hoping it to be smaller, but, you know, not TOO small. Not trying to put you thru the wringer, but you seem to ne in the "know".... |

Those look to be 18" wheels and I don't believe they will be standard issue. Perhaps an optional wheel but unlikely will they be the ones that come with the car stock.
