3M Tint vs. Ceramic?

Which do you guys think is best? I was quoted 315 for 3M, and 499 for ceramic. What are the advantages/disadvantages to each?

Thank you for your opinions.

Thanks for asking this question, I was about to ask myself. What % tint are you going?

BTW, It's always nice working JAAT with Apaches. Especially if the Apache driver is a FAC(A) and willing to buddy lase.

ceramic will give less interference to your radio, GPS signals and all other electric signals in general. And because it's a denser material, it also reduces heat from sunlight by 10-15%.

I have been looking at doing the ceramic on the recommendation of people here and the dealer. I decided to go with HuperOptik 30% ceramic tint.

The only thing is that it is pricey... $350 at the Solar Eclipse Tint which is the only authorized dealer in Georgia. Ouch, but it will be worth it.

I'll probably get the HuperOptik 45% on Saturday as soon as I get my car from the dealer Friday night or Saturday morning. They are charging $375, but I have a $25 off coupon from their website and am going to try to negotiate for special 1Addicts pricing too as several of us may go to this local shop.

MadMan, please post pics if you get the 30% HuperOptik. Would love to see it. I am not 100% sure if I'll get the 45%, but we'll see.

Solar Eclipse is a good shop... they did my GTI..

OP,
There are several different 3M films, they have metallic films and a carbon based which also does not interferes with radio waves.

That is good to hear. They called me yesterday and gave me the details after I sent a request in for a quote at HuperOptik's website. They seem cool now

I just have to wait on my car to actually ship. I am one of those week 14 guys that for some reason has NOT been shipped yet even though the status says that it has been at the port for two weeks.

Here is the thread that discussed the ceramic tint initially. According to several shops, ceramic or not doesn't affect any radio signals either way. That was offered as an explanation for poor radio reception just as a CYOA move...

The 3m they have supposedly does not interfere with electronics, but here in the hot humid south I think the extra heat protection may be worth the money.

Chop, I will be going 32% which is the legal limit here, because that is the darkest they will go while still offering the lifetime warrantee. One day I may try to transition to your aircraft once my initial comitment is up. As much shit as everyone give the AF, I am jealous of the deployment schedule and appreciate the job you guys do, especially the hogs.

Everyone has mentioned Huper Optik for ceramic tint but what about Formula 1 Pinnacle tint? How does that compare to Huper Optik?

Never heard of it, but I've seen and read amazing things about huper optik's ability to reflect away heat and light without even being very dark. Not sure how much "better" it is than the 3M tint or what have you.

According to the shop down here that sells both Huper Optik and 3M, the HO is way better. He mentioned that HO is what they put on the all of the expensive luxury and sports cars that come in...

Ya, it seems to be top of the line. I'm sure that's what I'll get on Saturday.

I think ill go ahead and spend that extra on the Huper Optik. There's something about ceramic tint that looks different from metallic. Maybe it's just me?

Ya, I don't know what it is. I keeping looking at JAMS 135's 50% ceramic tint and not sure why, but it looks just amazing to me.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=50%25+ceramic

Unfortunately my tint place might not be able to take me Saturday, but within a few days, I'm sure I'll put in that 45% huper optik. The car deserves nothing but the best, right? Plus I get hot easily.

Would 50% ceramic look ok? I want a slight tint that looks good, but mainly keeps the UV rays out. I would get darker but the law doesn't allow any tint on the front side windows. The police don't bother people around here if they can see in easy.

Is ceramic tint the best? Which brand is the best?

there are three main ceramic films... Huper Optic and V-Kool (not sure if v-kool is 100% ceramic) are the top two... Johnson is not as well known but is cheaper.

I'm am suprised that no one here has heard of Formula One. Their Pinnacle tint is their top of the line ceramic tint and is considered to be on par with HO, but the film is designed for autos (unlike the HO, which was originally intended for commercial use and FLAT surfaces) and is easier for tinters to work with. HO is thicker and more difficult for tinters and if they are not careful, will give you a distorted view over curved surfaces. F1 is also supposed to adhere better especially around the dot matrix. However, if you can get an experienced HO installer, it looks spectacular.

F1 is more of a grayish color, while HO gives a very slight bluish/greenish hue (which I love).

As you can tell I have done a lot of research. I'm dead set on getting cermaic tint, but am unsure which of these brands to go with.
