OK here is my review of the Riss Racing modified Clutch Delay Valve.

Firstly, as you can see from this thread, ordering from the website is quick and straightforward. The part arrived with me in the UK after a few days. It is the standard OEM part with the restrictive bottle-neck drilled out to a larger diameter to remove the restrictiveness.

I initially believed that the restrictive CDV might be for the US market only, but it turns out I had the same part fitted to my 130i. I was not unhappy with the gearchange, but for the price of the part it seemed rude not to try it.

Before having it fitted, I made a point of driving the car in a variety of conditions and mentally noted the pro’s and con’s. As an aside, I did fit a B&W short-shifter when I got the car, which was awful and made the car unrefined to drive, so I removed it within days. I have also driven an E36 M3 quite a lot, fitted with a short-shift which was fine but too notchy for the more refined 1-series IMO. This is a little off-topic but I mention it to point out that I am concerned not to detract from the high quality to the car by fitting mods that make the car rough or "rice".

I had the work done by my regular independent BMW specialist as they have the facilities and I’d rather let them oversee everything on the car. It was a quick job. I took the car out with the business owner before and afterwards, and we both appreciated that there was a noticeable difference. It is not a quantum leap as some opinions I have read might suggest. For instance, no passengers of mine have ever complained about lumpy changes from 1st to 2nd, but then I suppose I drive smoothly with passengers. The clutch engagement feels more positive and instant, as you would expect it it is being allowed to release quicker.

I am enjoying the gearchanges more and appreciate the difference, so I definitely give it the thumbs up as a worthwhile modification.

One last thing. From a warranty point of view I can’t imagine it is worthwhile getting worried about. The part is visually identical in every way. I won’t be losing any sleep about this aspect.

Does the Riss CDV look the same as the OEM CDV? I want to be steath-like.

It does, because it is that part, which has been drilled out to a larger internal diameter. It doesn't get more stealth than that.

Single best mod for the money....PERIOD. Takes longer to jack the car and remove the plate than to do the install. You WILL feel the difference.
