When I lived in Mammoth, an RS4 would have come in handy. And I can tell you that Mammoth is a fair F**K "nicer" than the EAST BAY!

Sorry but it has not. There is a competition pack for the M3 which gives you some of the features of the CSL (Rims, short shifter and others) but no where near all the features... Try calling your dealer and asking for a CSL

Or check this thread I just started at M3Forum.com link here

maybe I should have said the weather is nicer, that would be a more accurate statement

I would say that you get less snow that many other parts of the country, yes.

Interesting.
Well then, I guess we know that the M3 will be at least $60K.
That doesn't leave too much room for moderately priced 335, does it?

The E90 M3 will have a V8 pushing more than 400HP and weigh less than the RS4, let’s see who wins that one?

PS Well really the standard M3 is the competitor of the S4 but the M3 CSL (light weight racing version) is the competitor for the RS4 and I bet the CSL would whip the RS4 round a track... Pity the US never got the CSL...

The RS6 is the competitor for the M5 as the S4 is for the M3 and the RS4 is for the M3 CSL... Your comparison would be like comparing an A4 with the 5 series?
Before the CSL came out the M3 was matched with the rs4. S4 was never compared to the M3 (it's a much slower car than the rs4, ran around 7 secs). RS4 was and is still the world's fastest "estate" car....and why wouldnt it be with biturbo and 4wd (previous model)

I don't think so, if you're talking abou the competition package, it's a little different. As far as I know, BMW has never done the crash testing required for the CSL. Thee verision we got is just a little bit watered down.

I drove an A4 1.8T Quattro for 7 years. As underpowered as it was (150 hp) it was still a fun car to drive. I added a chip and got it up to 200 hp (claims by tuning company). I do agree that BMW gives a better image. They have positioned their cars perfectly. I think Audi needs to get a better PR department.
Until you get behind the wheel of both cars we are comparing in this thread, you really can't say much. Looking at numbers on a peice of paper won't do much. Wait until both cars come out in the US and then compare.
The RS4 will be a limited edition. I don't think it's fair to compare the RS4 to the M3. The S4 vs. M3, yes.
I wouldn't underestimate Audi. They surpassed Mercedes. Already BMW is playing catch up with Audi as some people posted in this thread in regards to engine choices.

Folks, IMHO:

-the new M3 is rumoured to be in the same price range and therefore no longer comparable to the S4 but properly (performance AND Price) to the RS4. The M3 will become much more of a halo car and be rarer

-the 335 will compete against the S4 in both price and performances (as well as the Luxus IS 300, G 35/37 etc.). It will IMHO be sportier from the git go (standard equipment).

Yeah, and anyone who doesn't see that is in denial.

335si ---> S4
M3 ---> RS4

Too bad BMW won't take on the Avant in the US market with a hot E91.

When was the M3 ever compare to the S4. It wasn't in Australia?

Make sense to say flagship of A4 vs flagship of 3 series (roughly speaking). That means RS4 vs M3. CSL is still M3 except it's more or a limited edition..

Last time I checked, an S4 starts at $47,120.
Should this imply that a 335 will start at a few thousand below this?
Like around $43K-$45K?

That's my guess. I mean that's less than $10k more than the 330i, which I think it's reasonable assuming it will be matched to the S4 in performance and options.
