Heat dissipated at drivers feet

Hi all,

I have a few problems with the car but that one really bugs me, i attached a picture of the problem in question.

This piece of plastic becomes really hot when driving for a while a stalling in traffic, especially during the summer..., in the winter i dont really mind it because heat is a good thing during the winter. During the summer it makes my feets and legs sweat alot. I talked to a rep and he said that was normal since the exhaust isnt far from there..., but come on it isnt suppose to have a heat shield there?

anyways, looking forward to your feedback guys

thank you

The exhaust/downpipes are right under there. I've noticed the same heat issue and this is all I can come up with. I've had the center console out, and there are no electronics or anything else there that would cause that much heat.

Yes, it's exhaust insulator. It's made for that exact purpose. In theory, it's supposed to increase performance because hot exhaust gas flows better, and at the same time will keep heat down in the engine bay/interior.

Thermo-Tek header wrap does in fact work ( and others like it...) The only down side is that the material traps moisture and corrodes the pipe underneath... Ive seen some headers that appeared fine till either the pipe was squeezed or the wrap removed... they almost fell apart in your hands...

just my .02..

You could get the pipes coated by Jet Hot. This is a more permanent fix compared to the wraps. It works as well, if not better, than the wraps. And looks pretty darn cool too. Not that coating your downpipes is much of a styling cue...lol. But in theory, it keeps the heat in the exhaust pipe longer, and out of the engine bay, making various under-hood parts last longer.
