agree, pricing is attractive and heart is tempted. never owned a V8, let alone a V8 M3. head says no cos i can see a drop of $40k-$50k in 2+years. M3 or 1M is likely a good used buy in a couple of years.

M3 still needs SC! But that is the price it should have been all along.

Having recently driven an m3 still prefer the 1m, plus IMO when you attempt to offload the stripped down m3 you would get killed in resale.

I'm wondering if this M3 Pure is just pure edition III (i.e. for 2013). Specs look the same to me as the Pure edition & Pure Edition II, but there is a price drop.

New add looks very similar to this one from 2011:

Here's Pure Edition II:

I think you'll find the full version buyers will get stung more than the "pure" buyers, oh and this will drive down the 1m resale as well as most peeps just look at the cover and will prefer an m3 over a 1m as it is perceived the better car

It's more fair to have a widespread reduction in price across the range- in other words stop ripping off everyone on every model. In that case, yes you'll get hurt on resale, but buying your next car will be a greater $ saving in comparison.

How many years does the AUD need to be above parity before our asses stop being pulverised by car makers such as BMW? The 'long term' average of them hedging currency is a load of bullshit. Their profit margins from the Aussie market must be absolutely staggering, isn't BMW a public company? That information breakdown must be available somewhere to shareholders.

Maybe... The two nights I had with one were pretty convincing, that noise is much more intoxicating than my 1Ms I'll have to see how the PI drive day goes
Ha. On track the v8 noise is intoxicating. Especially when you watch and hear it fly pass on the straight I was dreaming about the m3 the whole week after the corp drive.

Anyone kind enough to show me one in Melbourne?

Got in touch with the dealer, THIS pure will be around the 140k mark. The fact that they even took away folding mirrors is a bit ridiculous though

If resale value is your main concern when buying a new car then DONT BUY. Most my cars have been new buys, some fectch ok others loose horribly, its just how it is in OZ, those who decided to hold on to their new car gain the most. I've owned many new euro makes, its more or less the same for most.

Agree with this. When I look back on my last three cars, all new buy Germans, I estimate that I lost an average of $1,000/month of ownership in resale value.

So mentally I now just assume a $1,000/month hit and hope for a pleasant surprise!

The day just keeps getting better and better

One thing I don't understand about the Pure M3, is that if the competition pack, EDC, and M drive are all options now, does that mean they were all standard from the 07 cars?

Comp pack was optioned until the pure edition. The others were standard, IIRC. When the Sedan came out they become options on the Sedan and hence cheaper price for the sedan.

It's just another car maker, putting out another variant at another price point to get more sales.

There is a ~$50k gap in the 3 series pricing between the 335ci and the M3, gotta fill it with something to increase market share.

It's also a good tactic to make people look at the Pure and the cost of the options, then just decide to buy the full version because the numbers at the end look close anyway.

I was at eastern creek recently and I could not keep pace with the 1Ms. It was my first time out to ec in this car admittedly so was not fully on the pace but I have been going to this track for 7 or 8 yrs now (mostly in a 135),so know it fairly well. Having said that, I still prefer the look and sound of the M3. Glad this car has come out to help devalue my asset more rapidly

i agree the m3's struggle in the new twisty section, but are so quick on the straight and turn 1.

m3's need to have a 9.5 inch wide front and back 18" wheel set up with semi slicks to be really quick, quicker then a 1m, and less chance of an off too
