Beware of auto window/sunroof open 'feature'.
So, it started to snow a lot here in DC, and I needed to pick my wife up. I went out to my car to discover to my horror, the sunroof/windows open with a good coating of snow on the seats. I guess while i was changing out of my work clothes, the key in my pocket had the open button depressed. Luckily, the car probably was open for only a few minutes. The snow hadn't melted I was able to clean it out.
I feel lucky it wasn't worse. Is there a way to disable this 'feature'? I didn't find anything in the user manual. |

i would love to know how to kill it... this has happened to me (luckily when it wasn't raining or snowing)
i find myself checking my car when I know it's going to rain or snow... The funny thing is, I never, ever use the fob to open my car up. Totally useless option to me.

I've had a few cars that enabled you to open the windows with the remote and I've never done it accidentally. Probably because I always keep my keys in a particular spot and also because I too have always experienced having to be very close to the car to get the remote to actually work!

Hmmm,
In the 'vert with the smarttop module, I could accidentally open the roof, too . Luckily it doesn't snow where I am, but it does rain in Australia as you may have seen on recent news footage. Doesn't bear thinking about, really . Cheers, Alf

A few weeks ago my wife came in and told me when she pulled her car into the garage the 135i windows and sunroof opened. She had a few things stacked on her purse in her car and her purse had the 135i key in it. I figured the button was pressed on the fob in her purse and opened the windows when she came within range. I can’t remember if you can program it out on the setting we have access to in the instrument display.

Same thing happened to me in Durango over Christmas. There were several inches of snow on the roof and I think I somehow held down the button of the remote while it was in my pocket and I was carrying stuff out to the car. Made quite a mess at the time, but I don't think it did any real harm.

Thanks for the info, learned something new today. Must have missed that in the manual. Also learned about how the cornering lights work.

yeah, i do have comfort access, but the manual seems to say all fobs with the open button depressed will open the windows. Anyway, if this is a comfort access specific feature, it's certainly ironic that something called 'comfort access' resulted in 1/2" of snow on my front seats...

^ This, for me too. It seems like I have to get close enough to just open the door and roll down the windows/open the sunroof from the inside before the remote will start working. And then, I seems like I have to hold the button down for at least a couple of seconds before the windows will start opening....then I have to wait longer for the sunroof....

I'm thinking the difference might be CA, because during the time I was researching before ordering, I discovered there were a few CA owners who had experienced, let's say "quirks" in the operation. As much as I liked the idea of CA, I decided against ordering it. With my fob (w/o CA), I can't see how any accidental triggering that opens the windows/sunroof could happen, it's difficult enough to do intentionally.
OTH, wacky windows that roll down (or not all the way up) using the window control button is a different issue, I've had that without CA. pge |

it's easy, put it in your pocket with something else and sit down, I rolled my windows down a few times, my boss would come in and say "your windows just rolled down"
now I use this

I think the culprit is CA, but if you don't have that option, then there's a huge difference not only in continuous pressure required and but also activation distance between our fobs such as to trigger a rolldown. As a routine, I never carry anything else but the BWM key fob in my pocket, it's fairly big on its own. pge |

My car sits about 10 feet from my living room, put the laptop on my lap and it must have pressed the fob against my other keys (in)correct way. Now when I come in the front door, keys go on the table instead of in the pocket.

my remote you have to push and hold to make the windows go down, all it takes is something else in my pocket to do this, like my gun, or my house keys, both have done it in the past
