LCI rear tails vs Non LCI question???

So I have a 2012 which has the LCI tails.
The BMW OEM part number for these tails is:

Left 63217273427
Right 63217273428

The rear tails on early models have a different part number.
Left: 63217285641
Right: 63217285642

Here is my question. I want to keep my original tails to swap out each year -when I have to get my car inspected. But I want to buy some new tails so I can tint them - probably a candy apple black/red.

Can I buy the older model year tails? ( there are many more of the older models available and at a lower price then the newer ones)
.............Or do they not fit?
.............Are they not compatible in some way?

As long as they flash and work I really don't care about how bright or the design etc since they will be tinted anyway.... yet I still want them to work, fit and flash and be bright enough...

HELP!!

Okay, I did more research and I believe that the new lci lights have a different harness/plug which requires older models to upgrade to. So to move to the older version in my case may require a change in harness/plug so forget that ... I am just going to buy the Blackline LCI lights..
I think I answered my own question ...just in case someone else is trying to do the same idiotic thing I was...lol

To the best of my knowledge, all tail lights (LCI and pre-LCI) have the same connectors and harness. The only difference is between cars with halogen and xenon headlights. As long as your car has xenon headlights, any pre-LCI tails that came from a car with xenons should be compatible with your car, whereas pre-LCI tails that came from a halogen headlight car may not be.
