Dealers Charging over MSRP for 1M (Chapman BMW AZ for starters)
Chapman BMW of Phoenix Arizona just confirmed to me that they will be holding out for highest offer prices of all future 1M allocations at their dealership.
Too bad since Chapman was one of 32 US Dealerships to be honored by BMW for Dealer Excellence in 2010. Just shows what Greed will do to some dealers. I would like to start a list of BMW Dealers that are charging over MSRP for the 1M. People deserve to know going into these dealerships what to expect. I also believe that by listing these dealers it may help reduce this practice of GREED on the part of a few BMW dealers. Trying to secure the purchase of an 1M is difficult enough without dealers expecting to turn the buying experience into an bidding war! I intend to contact BMW NA as well about this dealers practice, not that it will do much but I don't think we should just accept this sleazy business practice without at least trying to do something about it.

+1. I hope they express some sort of concern over the practice.

I didnt expect any less from them. I was told they have someone offering 10K over MSRP for 1. They did this on the the E46 M3 and the Z8. I think they had a Z8 listed for $250K! It was being sold as used...

That rates pretty high on the douche-ometer, especially for a dealership that got an Excellence Award...
Excellence for what: raping customers?

Generally speaking, I wounldn't have a problem with a dealer getting what they can get, but this car was promoted by BMW as an entry-level M Car for the younger and cheaper buyer. Not so much apparently, especially if it's limited to 2011 only.

The more poor ratings/posts that these stealerships get in the forums, I would hope this hurts them somewhat. But in the end, someone with enough money will plop down for what they think is a good deal. I think there will be more left over than they are promoting. This will give people time to stop and think about performance/money/room, etc.

Glad this practice is not allowed in the UK. (At a recent closed auction for dealers, a nearly new X3 went up to rrp resulting in BMW pulling the car from the auction). |

I wish we could say the same here in the US, but it's almost encouraged here to get all you can!

Why bitch about it unless you are buying one? If you know you can sell it to some jack wagon that's going to cough up the cash, why not. This happens all the time with cars in low supply, high demand. Camero when it came out, 10K over MSRP, Challenger, 10K over MSRP. Why would you expect anything less from a BMW dealer.

It's obvious that your not buying a 1M! I don't think anyone who is buying one would be happy to have the dealer add in additional Profit to their deal??? What do you think.

So don't buy one from a dealer asking above MSRP. If others agree with you, they don't sell at a profit and the price comes down. Your desire to be one of the first to own the car puts you at a distinct economic disadvantage.

I truly want the car, but if my dealer even implies about charging me 1 penny above msrp, they can shove it up their asses. Dealing with their allocation BS has been enough of a headache up to this point, and even if I were offered a discount, it is starting to become questionable whether I want to continue to pursue this car or not. I think BMW has done an outstanding job at pushing away quite a few potential customers.

Don't pay over MSRP and they won't get away with it. BMW of Corpus Christi is getting me one for MSRP or less.
I ordered a 135i about two years ago from them. MSRP was $47,300. I got it for $43,200 with a $2,500 deposit. I am very pleased with them, besides the lack of car knowledge from the sales guys. |
