Mate, if you're serious about buying this weekend, I still think you can get a deal on a 135 (assuming that's what you want). Have you driven one? If not, maybe you should. There are a number of us that got new (ordered) 135's, on the road, for $75K - $80K, with a few options. I see no reason why you couldn't get into a Demo with Auto for around the money you're talking about. You may have to tip in a few $'s above the $71K, but that's why a drive is important. To decide whether that's a good deal for YOU. It's your money, you work hard for it. Make sure you get the best value for it, and it's what YOU want. |

you have a very good point there. if i'm just shy a few k of the car that i really want, then i might consider chipping in extra... we'll see. 3-way fight then, 125 v 135 v evo x.

It's good to have the evo x in there. Make sure the BMW guy knows you're looking at it. Otherwise he'll feel like he's going to make a sale either way (125 or 135).
Be open with the sales guys. Tell them what you're comparing. Without being a tool, it tells them that they're going to have to work to win the business. It also gives them an idea of what they have to beat. Which all works in your favour. Have a price in mind that you believe is do'able for the car you decide you want. When they give you a price, respond with "I was hoping we could do it for $xx". Don't be crazy though. It has to be good business for them. ($8K - $10K under list is not rediculous on these cars - particularly if you have a few options on it - they have pretty high margins on the options, which is also negotiable) Also, hold it back for a while if you can, but after you've pushed the price down as far as you think you can, ask them what they'll do if you're "prepared to sign up today". If you play it right, you'll be surprised how much you can move them from their original offer. |

Thanks for the advice. Given that my friend could move his 325i from 110k to 92k, I have a fair idea about what's possible.
Disadvantage is the sales guy knows I want to sign tomorrow. Then again I could easily plant some seeds of doubt in his mind by saying that the evo was so good that I need more time to think it over. And it just might be! |

oops! went above budget
but i'm very happy. 125i with all the options i wanted, plus a few nice-to-haves.... 73k driveaway: - 125i auto - m sport pack - metallic paint - 18" double spoke rims - sunroof - anti-dazzle mirrors - park distance control - business satnav - ipod cable - floormats - business rego i sat there thinking about how a few more grand would have netted me a 135i, but i decided the 125i is plenty fast enough for me and i really wanted the above options. and importantly, it's a brand new car with delivery in 3 days!! (my past 2 cars i had to wait 3 months for) my decision was made harder by test-driving a friend's evo x in the morning. it was actually a bit smoother than the 125i, but was noisier and was a much more 'raw' experience. we also attracted quite a bit of attention which is something i wasn't looking forward to. that said it was much more liveable than i thought it was going to be and for 69k driveaway it was so so tempting... now to think of a name for my new baby |

I agree - the 125 for me was fast enough...for now Plus i'm under 25 so my insurance would be OTT if i bought a 135! You have pretty much the same options as myself, except I passed on the sat nav. This will be something i get in my next 1er IF and only IF BMW change the silly useless rear cup-holder. I want a cup holder that will work, and currently i have two and only one is accessible. Makes a pain! By the way, what colour did you end up getting? And yes, I concur with Zuzu, get your 125 along to the next drive day as I was the only one there last time! I got ganged up on by Zuzu and Bob and threatened. Kidding A tip for picking your name: http://www.babynamescountry.com/orig...by_names1.html.... German baby girl names |

thanks taymaishu!! definitely happy to accompany you on the next drive day, or even better, on a track day! for the first time ever in my life i have a trackable car. (the audi salesman said the a4 2.0t is a track car too... err, no.)
i'm 26 and the insurance for the 135i would still have killed me too... an extra $100 a month. i love the sound of the engine so for me a 125i just means i get to listen to it sing for longer got the space grey; my favourite out of all of the colours and they had them in stock at the dealer as well, so big win for me! if i wanted a special colour (e.g. le mans blue or whatever the m pack exclusive one is) then it would have been a factory order; i want my new car now!! ffforever: was initially shown 80k so i got 7k off. was aiming for 12-15k off but couldn't because: - dealers don't get bonuses on the 1-series, only 3-series and up - the 1ers are flying out the door, they know if i don't want to pay at the price i paid then the next person that walks in will - i wanted a fast delivery that said, what worked really well for me today was the fact that it was the last weekend of the quarter, so they were very keen to do the deal but if and only if i could pay in full by end of the month. |

Love my 125i, pretty much got the same options as you except with a manual transmission.. the sound of the engine is addictive.
Congrats!

If there's one criticism I have of my 135i is that I don't get to hear the engine at full song long enough before the speed limit comes up.

Was actually thinking that the other day. Even when on a spirited 30min drive, I only touch 100% throttle for 30-40 secs max. The rest of the time full throttle would have been too much. The car is maybe too powerful

Wash your mouth out young man!
Either way, 125i or 135i, they are great cars and love to sing, so congratulations to chylld. You got pretty much the car I was going to get, however, I couldn't stand the wait and jumped a 135i with immediate delivery. I'm sure you'll get just as much enjoyment out of your new car as all of us do.
