Space Saver Spare
So I took my RFT's off about a month ago and replaced them. Like many people on here, I didnt like the idea of not having a spare so I bought one this week and it just got here. This is the one I ordered:
http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Perfor...82E88-KIT.html I have never had this experience before because all my previous vehicles have had spares and if i get a flat, AAA comes and changes it (and I've only ever had one). When I took the space saver outside to put it in my trunk, I lined it up with my current wheels and this one looked taller than the front tires. I know the wheel is the same size but the larger tire width looks almost like it wouldnt fit in the wheel well. Short of having to change the tire now just to see if it fits, does anyone have insight on if this is normal or any reason why it looks like that?? I realize this is kind of a silly question and I searched the forum for something similar about the spare but came up empty. Any insight is appreciated. thanks |

I bought the same spare tire from Bavauto...i didn't want to go through Winter without it since I dont have runflats. I hope it fits...i dont think the overall diameter will be a problem and I have a slight drop with St coilovers. The only way to ensure it fits is to mount it
PS - I'm gonna do it as soon as it arrives so I will advise if you can wait.

I bought the cheapest rim that would fit on tirerack with a cheap tire so that i would have a full size spare. I think i paid about $160 total.

I just received my spare and just mounted today to confirm. It is the same tire you ordered and is butt ugly.

I have the space saver spare, but only carry it if traveling a distance from my house, which is very rare. Otherwise I leave the M Mobility Kit in the trunk and rely on AAA Plus which will flat bed the car up to 100 miles back to my driveway. If I used the car for travel, I would definitely carry a full size spare around. |

Fits fine, works fine. I keep mine in a plastic bag. It stays home on those occasions when I need every bit of space in the back, but that's pretty rare.

So just to confirm because I'm stupid...
This will fit over the rear brakes? And this 17" spare is fine even if you have 18" or 19" wheels otherwise?

I use an adjustable strap with hooks on the bottom side of my spare hooked to the back hook attachments. Once my mechanic had left my spare unhooked and hit the brakes too hard and slung my spare through my original panel (I'm rear seatless). So I also bought a cargo net. I hook the front of the net to the front of the trunk floorboard piece.

1) Can you please give more details about the hooking of your spare to the rear stock hook attachments and your reference to the hooks on the bottom side of your spare? 2) Also, would a 135i with back seats not removed be able to have the net hooked to the front of the trunk floorboard as you have and still have the seatbacks lock into place, or does this just work for you because you are minus rear seats?

Boost, I just hook the adjustable strap into the spare. I think it's hooked through the center hole and then into a lug nut hole? It seems very secure, the net really doesn't do anything to hold my spare now that I've went to this strap.
I'm pretty sure the front hooks hooked as I have them would easily still allow the rear seats to be closed. Actually I'd think it would work great and pretty solidly secure the hooks.

I carry the BMW spare kit in my vert...no issues when top is up or down. You pretty much use all trunk space though. I'll try and post a pic later...
