Tire life on the factory installed tires?

Hi folks. New user here considering a purchase on a 2013 128i and I was wondering about what the expected lifespan is on the factory installed 17" runflat tires. I'm still looking at some numbers related to total cost of ownership and was curious as to how often I would have to replace my tires under normal daily use. Any help would be appreciated.

some get 10K miles, some get 35K miles. Most seem to go 24K (ish) before needing new tires.

It really depends on how you drive. Do you like to rotate the car under power in a turn? Do you like to take off quickly? Or do you only drive highways?

I live in a rural area so there are lots of twisty roads out here that I like to drive briskly without getting dangerous or over aggressive. My commute is about 16 miles each way with over half of that being backroads and the final few minutes being on a normal 4 lane highway into the town where I work.

I don't tend to slide or launch aggressively enough to burn the rear tires. For me, most of the wear would be coming from the curves and corners of the backroads near my house.

Some of the 135i/1M guys will burn thru the rear tires in only 6K to 12K miles. But the 128i will do much better on tire life.

my factory 18" RFT are at end of life, the car has 85000 km
I have a winter set, I am not sure what the previous owner used in the winter

I got 23k miles out of the rear OEM 17" Goodyear NCT5s which were standard on the sport package. As they cost $700 for just the 2 rear tires, I opted to replace all four with non-RFT Conti DWS for about $600 which will probably give about 45k on the rear and 70k on the front.

I would NOT recommend the NCT5s as they are summer touring (not performance) tires with only adequate performance at an exorbitant price.

With a hearty mix of highway and spirited back roads driving, I'm expecting ~15k total out of them. My tires are brand new when I received my car CPO just under 2 weeks ago, fingers crossed for as much mileage I can squeeze out of them before moving to a new wheel/tire combo

I'm at about 22K miles now on my 128i sport and the dealer says the rear tires are worn out. They are getting close to the wear bars. Dealer measured fronts as having 5mm tread left (versus 2mm on back). I plan 4 new tires, all the size of the current rear tires, soon (just need to find time to get it done).

I living in Cumming and have an 09 135i. It's my weekend car so my tires have lasted a while. My rears wore out at about 20K but I'm still on the original fronts at 36K. I have about 3k before the wear bars breaking through.

Some spirited driving on my 128i and only got 17,000 miles out of them, hated the staggered setup as you can't rotate tires from front to back.

I am running now a square setup 225 all the way, non run-flat tires and was the best mod so far. Should have gotten rid of them right away, so I'm glad they only lasted this short.

I dunno how you can handle 225 rears, i even get bad traction loss on 245 rears

Planning a 285 or 305 square setup though

24000 mi is pretty good though, out of my falken fk452's (non rft) i've done 32000km myself, 5000 from previous owner, and they've probably got 10-15kkm left. It's incredible really.

the non-sport packaged 128s & 135s should be square.

I have 17K miles on my OEM squishy all season tires & they are about 1/2 way through.

I think 225 summer tires on all four corners with a 128i is the way to go.

If I remember right, rear is 8" and front was 7 1/2" rims on my staggered sport package setup. Both sizes allow for 225 tires.

At least in 2009 sport wheels for the 128i convertible is 7 inch front and 7.5 inch rear. Tire rack says the 225 rear tires will go on a 7 inch rim.

Unlikely that you will see the 1/2' difference in rim size, at least I can't, but it's nice to be able to rotate them and getting much longer thread life out of them.

I drive mostly freeway (75%), got 40k out of my tires (switched all 4 just last week). Car came with the Pirelli RFTs. I have the sports pkg stagger setup, never got an alignment either...

The tires did look pretty dead though, which prompted me to get new ones.

seems like i go through at least a set of tires every year, of just boring street driving no tracks, canyons, regardless alignment and set up I have. the dealership tires on my sport package car only lasted 12k and that was only from home to work at the time was 5mi away. I have installed these kumo 225/40 18 tires with a 40k warranty on them, we will see how long these last.
