Programming new Battery with Bav Tech Tool
Ok, replaced the original battery with a new OEM unit.
Have been trying to get the new battery registered/programmed/whatever with the car. I am using a Bav Tech tool and go to Engine - Battery Replacement Adaptation. I get the Command Sent Successfully message in the Bav Tech software. Everything seems fine but the clock goes to --:--. I set the clock but after 15-20 minutes, if I start the car, I get the Yellow car on a lift icon and the clock goes back to --:--. Any thoughts on what the issue is? interested in this as well
is this method of using the BAV tool normal for reseting the battery and known to work for others ?? can this method also be used for use with other non-OEM batteries?

Interested here too. I think the -10F has zapped the battery to a level I need to get a replacement. The original from 3/08 has done well:-)

You do need to program a new battery. Whether OEM or aftermarket. My understanding was that the BavTech tool would do this, but after many attempts, it did not.
I took the car to the dealer and they did it. |

Andy,
I've found your DIYs for console removal very useful. I've put the iDrive cup holder in my car and my wife's using your DIY. Thanks. So I know you are good at car modification/maintenance - so don't take this wrong. But are you sure the trouble code is connected to the battery replacement? Did you read the code? I am unfamilar with the Bav tool but their website clearly says it does battery registration. I am not familar with what would reset the clock (I don't remember it happening when I have coded) but it seems like you got a trouble code which may or may not have been related to use of the Bav tool and/or the battery replacement. Sorry I cannot be more helpful. I have coded a few things using NCSExpert but haven't used the Bav tool. Is it possible you could use the cable from the BavTool with NCSExpert? That software comes "free" so there wouldn't be any significant investment to try it. Jim

Jim,
I checked for fault codes and did not get any. I tried the Battery Registration through the Bav Tech tool a lot and it did not fix the issue. I had found posts on other boards where people had issues with the battery registration on a Bav Tech tool. I have not had to use the tool for anything on my car (knock on wood) so who knows. Car is fine now. |
