OEM steering wheel done in light grey alcantara

What are peoples thoughts a light grey alcantara M tricolour stitch?

I have been looking at the performance wheel for some time but wasn't overly keen on the darker alcantara and the blue centre line so contacted the person who did Jez's performance wheel in the same matching alcantara on the dash etc

Cost £130

performance wheel, over £500

Jez's wheel

example of workmanship on M3 wheel in dark grey alcantara and M tri colour stitch

Goes lovely with the rest of the Alcantara. Yes I think it would look good.

Shane,

I was in a similar boat to you but decided that I preferred the flat bottomed performance wheel so ordered one of those. However having seen the retrimmed version it does look good.

Hmm tough choice but I would probably still go for the performance wheel. I ordered mine with the central alcantara section as well which I think finishes it off nicely

The only problem with the Alcantara multi function cover that comes with this wheel is it doesn't have the lines coming down to the M badge.

Yeah there is that but I figured I had enough M badges on the car elsewhere to get away with it

I can't see any differences in these pictures?

Is the M performance wheel significantly darker IRL then?

The first pic is Jez's with a light grey alcantara, the same as the the rest of the alcantara trim in your 1M, the next pic in the M3 is a dark grey alcantara, the GTS & CTR is the oem alcantara for those 2 and the the M3 Performance wheel is more on the black alcantara side of things with the centre line (blue)

Mine does!

I'm not going to pretend like it was easy, but the results look great! BMW Charcoal Gray over OEM 'M' cover.

Now that looks good, far better than the cover without slot lines! Also goes nice with the black leather rim.

Thanks. Well to answer your original question (I think),then yes, I would definitely go light grey with tri-colour.

Also love the look of alcantara centre and leather rim! Nice.

i just ordered the suede insert from BMW, is it just a pop and swap piece like the carbon fiber mirror covers were?

^ FYI, the suede insert that BMW sells does not have the indentation in the middle or the M logo. Whats pictured is a custom wrap I did myself. The actual swap is pretty simple. Search my old threads, I did a DIY on the aclantara swap on my E90 M3 years ago.
