In the past year I mentioned the personalisation programme that was considered in an attempt to conceive younger enthusiasts, and effectively what you see here is what was conceived to support this.
Will the parts reach the Performance market? It is something being looked at , remember the production might be short lived but the car will still be around. To support it’s return to the Tokyo autoshow in December after BMW’s 2009Hiatus. (the consensus is we will still be there , despite the tragedy) BMW M will showcase on something that is outgoing but a current M car. But is an Engineering Concept that will show the possibilities of how BMW M can progress in relation to a full lightweight concept in bodyshell and chassis in the future. Normally it's key principle is of course Motorsport, but it is about giving you an insight into future application within a road car. It is to showcase BMW Innovation but as well as materials used in today's M cars such as Aluminium , Magnesium , Thermo-Plastic and Carbon Fibre in key areas , but also using the ideas in greater capacity and the technology from the BMWi programme which is why BMW has invested in it's future . Mass volume production of CFRP will be able to filter through to BMW’s core product strategy. It is more of an “Engineering and Performance showcase” than a visual one. Similiar to the Concept 1er Tii @ Tokyo 2007. it is not the 1M. It is not for production but to show a "bespoke" concept to show how things will progress in the future.

As an FYI to all: there is a very nice article on the Akrapovic operations in the latest issue of European Car magazine. Lots of photos and detail on the craftsmanship and quality of their work. Can't wait to see what their exhaust looks and sounds like on the 1 ///M!

Awesome, but still pointless. "Safety car" and "Safety bike" do absolutely nothing at MotoGP. The car and bike are on track for promotion only. So a bit rich of them pretending as though BMW are helping the safety of the sport anyway, shape or form.
- end rant -

With the intro of the latest M6 'safety car', http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=824553 from the group picture, it appears as if the 1M 'Safety car' is retired from active duty. It will get a lot of free time for numerous promotional appearances (currently at der Welt http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=784)
