Finally got my 1 series! comparing to previous E92.
Hey everyone,
so i got my 128i about 5 days ago and have but on around 150 miles. before this i had a 335i coupe, tricked out with all the bells an whistles. Now i sort of downgraded to the 128i, but i gota say that i love it. its a super super fun car to drive especially the 6mt with Msport pkg. The handling isnt quite what the 335 was, but for an entry level BMW 128 it handles itself very well. Before some people starting bashing, let me state that I love this car, and am not really complaing, just stating out things. a few things really bug me about the car though and its more or less BMWs fault because they sort of skip through the basics of BMW luxery when it comes to their lower end models, but for the 128 because its the most cheapest model of BMW they realllly skipped a lot of standard features. let me explain... a lot of things from the ( ) 335 or any e92 i dont expect in the 128 or 135, like the red ambient lighting the car had inside throughout the door panels. However i was amazed to see 128 did NOT have the button to automatically pull in the rear view mirrors. I was dissapointed to see it didnt not automatically tilt down when i put it in reverse. Last but not at least, i was left standing like a fool when i found the bluetooth telephone buttons on my steering wheel were just a tease. a 2011 model BMW should have bluetooth, standard, no further questions. You should not have to purchase a package to get bluetooth. I understand other things like the sunroof, the angel eyes (still weird, should be standard but anyway), the nicer rims, the front facia etc etc, but bluetooth? C'mon BMW stop being cheap, you already spent your money putting in the damn buttons, just program it and set it up make it standard!!! anyway, <3 the car, wish it had blue tooth.. or should i say "premium package?" -_- so lame. and another thing.. going from iDrive to no iDrive is very, very, very difficult transition.

I didn't realize the folding side mirrors and auto tilt were part of some package on the 128. The 135 I have does have it and I thought it was standard. As for the bluetooth, yeah I agree. I did get the package that had it so I do have it.

My right mirror only tilts if the mirror control selector is in the left position. ie, you want to adjust the left mirror. Just a thought...

All of the things you are missing are all part of the premium package on both the 128i and 135i. No current 1-series car has auto tilt mirrors or Bluetooth standard.
Should those things be standard? Well that is a different discussion. Personally I like the option of paying for things I want and not paying for things I do not want. It keeps the base price down. Think of it this way, the base 128i is about $5k less than the base 328i. Why it is that much less? The engine is the same along with almost all of the other major components. Sure the car is a bit shorter and lighter but how much is saved by cutting out 8" of metal of the car? Probably not much. The rest of the price difference comes from taking out content from the 328i. |

And Bluetooth/BMW Assist is a $750 option on both one and 3 series. BTW, leather (+ipod & USB adapter) is now a free option on all one series models and the 328i, but it still costs $1,450 extra on the 335i. At any rate, I hope Mike continues to enjoy his 128i. Tom |

Mike: Sounds like you should have taken the buying process slower and reviewed exactly what you were and weren't getting. All the same, you're in a fun little 1 now, so enjoy it! |

You probably miss the power of your 335i engine and the luxury but the 128i is not a bad car by itself especially when mated w/ a stick/M-Sport. It's a very simple, pure car.

I don't think that I missed anything that you mentioned. I only wish BMW build the 1 with the performance suspension and exhaust as part of the performance package but not an add-on.

I sort of agree withthe whole paying thing like I got the M package which is sweeet and I feel like it was worth te money I guess I was just a tad surprised. But anyway I love the 1 and think it's one of the best in the BMW family, if the 1 series continues to keep it's game up like this I might consider a 135 as my next option. This little thing, although doesn't have the turbo is still pretty fast and I was glad that BMW at least on a 128 was considerate to engineer a very sweet exhaust note
