What's the reasoning behind varying the throttle?
Picking up the car for PCD and then driving across the country will mean lots of boring highway driving where I expect to be doing the same speed and same RPMs.

I Have heard that before. Apparently its better for an engine during the runin period to have varying loads and revs as much as possible. I just change down a couple of cogs every so often then work back up through the gears when I'm on the freeway.

Hard break in is what it's all about. I've never been a fan of soft break ins. I don't bag on the car day in day out but it gets driven past 5500 on occasion. The sooner the rings can seat the better the car will be.

You want to generate some vacuum while in gear. Doing so at say 4K or so - is goood for the rings and valves to "seat" properly. The worse thing you could possibly do is hit the highway and set the cruise control! EVEN if you must drive the highway... IF you could be in a lower gear 4th or 5th and varry your rpms AND load (vacuum) that would be good. Try to varru your speed too. Or... just take some back roads for the first few hundred miles. |
