New New York Plates are Ugly

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/11/ny.../11plates.html

The plates we have now are much better looking. This would have never happened if our governor could see...

That plate is ugly! If I have to buy a new one next year, then maybe I'll upgrade to this:

Yea, but they already took our awesome statue of liberty plates away, and we've just adapted to the empire state ones, now we are getting these gilded things at $25 a pop. And its not that the plates look that bad, its just that its being done to patch a big hole in the NYS budget.

And I concur with you timhatimay, I might consider some BMWCCA plates now. I'm just not sure how long time members will respond to me showing up at Nassau Colosseum as a fresh member sporting them.

I think it's pretty hideous. Looks like something that came out of my dog this morning.

$25 fee now, up from $5.50! Yikes! How long before upstate NY and the rest of mainstream NY secedes from NY/NYC? Do you folks have to subsidize NYC forever!

Upstate NY wouldn't function nearly as well on its own as it does with NYC. Wall Street generates a pretty large chunk of the state's revenue. So its kind of the other way around, NYC subsidizes life in the boonies.

Least thats what King Mike says.

^Awesome!

I'm not looking forward to putting this puke colored plate on my car. Why can't we order plates in whatever color we wanted to match our cars?

Per capita income from 2000 census...

ny state- $23,389
nyc- $22,402
manhattan- $42,922
upper east side- $85,081
brooklyn- $16,775
queens- $19,222
bronx- $13,959
staten island- $23,905

Doesn't seem like NYC subsidizes all that much. Even though Manhattan(upper east side specifically) may be one of the most affluent areas in the country the bronx is one of the poorest.

Hey, believe what you want. If you think that the rest of NYS could maintain the quality of service that there is now without the revenue from NYC, maybe you should run for governor, or at least you could show Paterson the way to balance a budget.

You want to know who subsidizes NYC and NYS? The good folks that live in Nassau and Suffolk counties. MTA can't meet budget? Tax Nassau and Suffolk! Schools in Buffalo and the Bronx can't meet budget? Tax Nassau and Suffolk!

If anyone should cecede from NYS in should be Nassau and Suffolk!
