135i mods that dont void the warrenty

I've been breaking in my 135i before I start tuning... Im around 7500 miles now so im starting to look for exhaust, ECU, downpipes etc. Any recommendations on performance upgrades that get the best bang for your buck, and can be removed bc the car is leased?

Ummmm... lighter wheels maybe? Basically, anything that affects the powertrain can allow them to void the powertrain warranty.

You can do an intake and BOV fairly easily. Even the Riss Racing exhaust is bolt on so you can take that on and off fairly easily.

Dinan stuff won't void the warranty per-se...given that Dinan will step up to cover anything that BMW Canada / BMW USA won't cover in the 4yr / 80,000km / 50,000 mile warranty.

Gotta be careful. BMW dealerships across the state are becoming super aggressive with these reflash and piggy backs detections. They're tightening the corporate belt. At least thats what my BMW-tech buddy says.

I was reading a lot of Riss Racing here... I think my plan, as of now, was to get some bolt on mods: downpipes, maybe exhaust (can anyone recommend anything that doesnt make the car louder than hell, i do have a job i have to drive to) and then an ECU in a bit. Have the new ECU claims been substantiated?

Also for downpipes i was looking at AR Design, anyone running this equipment?

Play it safe with a JB2 and remove before major dealer visit, unless you trust the the JB3 added boost at 14psi (i think is risky long term), throw in an air filter too although the air filter you could leave in for all service, just take the JB out!

The only mods that do not void your "bmw warranty" are any mods you buy from your BMW dealership or BMW affiliates that sell the BMW performance parts... anything else there is going to be at least 1% chance of voiding it and it could be that 1% that causes you to lose it.. and if you are that sensitive bout it then you have to pay the price and get the BMW parts...

If your car is leased your putting yourself at a large legal risk doing anything. All I'd do would be BMW performance parts installed at the dealer.

Normally the safest thing to do is bolt-ons that won't really cause the dealer to worry. Downpipes should be ok, unless you blow your turbo, then of course they won't cover your powertrain. I would stay away from any piggy-backs or even Dinan for that matter, as warranty for the turbo's will go down the drain. Intakes are also fine. I would personally try to get to know someone inside the BMW service shop, it helps.... A LOT.

Should they find out on a leased car - only BMW OEM and BMW Performance, installed at the dealer, are 100% safe. Wheels/tires should be OK too, as long as you put the OEM back at the end.

I am not at all sure that it's OK with BMWFS to modify the car with Dinan parts - because the car can no longer be CPO'ed.

If I remember correctly, there was a notice sent out a while ago that if BMW finds out that you have put Dinan programming on the car that it will no longer be able to be BMW CPO.
