my understanding is that if you want the bumper now from them they can do i for you at $1400.

however this maybe different if they ever decide to mass produce it.

Glad they aren't thinking of mass producing it. Don't need a bunch of 1M knock offs riding around.

Unless that M-badge is on the car.... it is not a knock off.

plus my car when ordered from factory has M door sills. Am I a 1m Knock off?
or maybe a 135i knock off cause it looks exactly like a 135i.

Or maybe all the e39 guys that do the M-tech II upgrade that make there cars look like an M5. Are they knock offs too? Or even when BMW produced the e39 with, from factory, the M-Tech II upgrade.

Unless that badge is on the car, nobodies it trying to pose as anything. There is nothing wrong with trying to get your car look more aggressive.

And last time i checked.. imitation is a form of flattery.

Little insecure? Worried you won't be so "exclusive"?

No, it's not a knock off if it comes from the factory that way. If some company is hacking together a front end, then yes, I think that would be the definition of a knock off. As far as the M badge on the back goes you know as well as I do plenty of people will buy the front end and an M badge for the back.

What's wrong with wanting to keep the car exclusive? If people wanted a 1M they should have bought one, not turn their car into a fake one.

I think that you don't want your toes stepped on. Fair enough. If I was on the other side of that fence I wouldn't like people encroaching, either. The way I view the front bumper is like any other mod. If it looks cool, go for it. If someone buys a knockoff Kerscher lip, they aren't trying to be "Kerscher." They probably just like the way it looks and makes the car more aggressive. I think this is similar. Also kind of like a BMW Performance front bumper. Doesn't suit my taste but if it looks cool to you, mod away. Just don't think that when these come out there's going to be tons of 1M fakes roaming the streets. The same product has been around for the 3 series and I haven't seen one of them on the road and I'm in Dallas.

yea I know... the people that do that need to be slapped. Those people gives a moder like me a bad name. I love how the 1m bumper looks and I want to put one on my car. But in no way will I ever put an M badge on the trunk of my car. That is not what the car is.

There is nothing wrong with exclusivity as long as you know it will come with imitation from others. The people that will recognize your car being exclusive will be among the car enthusiastic group and yourself.

Your exclusivity will come in the form of a vin number when you go ahead and sell your car. To think exclusivity is in form and package in today terms is just not possible.

Most other people on the road will not care how exclusive your car is but will give you a thumbs up if they like the way your car looks.

Everyone is being silly.

In short, only time you can put a M badge on your car is if you do a full conversion to a 1M. Not because it's a super club that you have to buy into. But because it's incorrect. The important factor is accuracy, not elitism.

There's hundreds of e90 and e92's rolling around with M3 front bumpers and no one's confusing the two. It's just a front bumper option and there aren't many options when it comes to the e82. Maybe you'll have a point when someone starts marketing fenders with the M crease or starts sporting an M badge. Until then don't worry, you're still "exclusive" in a world where just about anyone can lease just about any car.

considering they only released less than a handful in canada.. and then the dealers marked them up to M3 prices.. why not build your own? Its not like we're turning fieros into ferrari look a likes. Simply making 128's and 135's (what the 1m is based on) look and perform like them

Isn't the benefit of the M bumper wider fenders?
