BMW Performance Y-Pipe PN

Can you purchase the y-pipe separately that comes with the performance exhaust? If so, does anyone know the part number?

Was just thinking about doing this myself but could not find the part by itself.

I have the PN for the clamps used to connect the cut ends but not for the actual Y pipe itself. Hopefully someone can chime in.

Just looked and couldn't find it separate from the actual perf exhaust.

Also, FWIW, it's just a resonator delete. Pretty much any exhaust shop could do it perfectly fine on the cheap.

That sounds good but how well would the welds be? Do they use sleeves or something so welds wouldn't be sticking into the exhaust flow?

It depends on the shop I'd assume

Depends on how good your shop is.

You could certainly have them build you a clamp-on y-pipe resonator delete if you wanted that instead.

Couldn't you just buy the 1M midpipe? It essentially is the exhaust with y-pipe hidden:

Unfortunately BMW does not sell the PE kit y-pipe separately. You can only get it in the PE(Performance Exhaust) kit.

Yea... you could do that. But, the 1M mid pipe with the secondary cats is VERY expensive. ~2,700 USd.

Best and cheapest thing to do is go to a good muffler shop that ca delete the resonator on the mid pipe. Or better yet, cut it apart and insert a straight tube like BMW did for the 1M's mid pipe.

I really thought putting on N55 mids would be a "poor man's" PE sound. But I was wrong. It just made the exhaust louder all the time and at WOT it was really loud! So loud cars ten cars behind me in a tunnel could clearly hear me accelerate! I also felt the N55 mid lost some low end torque under say ~2,500 rpms.

In the end I bought a PE and reinstalled my factory N54 mid pipes with secondary cats. I installed the PE y-pipe too. I am really happy with teh results. The PE is money well spend. Its perfect for the car. Not too loud when cruising... but open up the throttle and its PURE music to my ears!!

Thanks Dack. Its interesting you thought the N55 was too loud. I have an N55 midpipe with a berk axleback and I wish it was just a tad louder and more deep sounding sorta like a diesel truck lol. I was assuming the resonator delete would give me that bit of extra rasp and volume.

Actually I have similar issues with my N54 midpipes running the PE & Y pipe, regarding less low end torque. I was told this is normal because of the exhaust flapper delete. This is particularly noticeable in reverse gear.

That said, I can't say that the PE adds any power, but the car seems smoother and torquier at the mid-high range.
