Just installed aFe Machforce axleback - have an issue

Hi all,

Last night I removed the stock muffler and installed the aFe machforce xp axleback. Installation was really easy, hardest part was getting those damn rubber hangers off. Finished install in <1 hour.

Anyway, overall sounds great though I have one issue which I will get to...
It's quite a bit louder than stock (which isn't saying much obviously), most noticeable at <3500 rpms. There is also more gurgle which is always nice.

My issue is that whenever I hit ~4k rpms there is a weird horn/whistle sound (similar to videos I've seen of the Berk street though not nearly as bad).

The rest of the exhaust is stock, only have replaced the axleback.

Does anyone know why this happens and if there is a way I can fix it?

Thanks!

I have a berk street and have a similar sounds. It sort of sounds like a tire screeching sound or air blowing through a straw. I was going to check my connection to see if the gasket is leaking.

Hey thanks for the response - what exactly do you mean by change the tip? Do you mean actually replace the exhaust tips that came on the aFe exhuast?

The "y" tip is what causes the whistle - where it splits from one pipe into the two pipes at the exhaust tip - same as the berk experiences sometimes.

what happens is they get weld slag on the inside where the Y is made, and that acts as a whistle.

So what would actually be the method of fixing this? Is there no way to fix it without replacing the exhaust tips?

Sure isn't. Replace the tip with a single or try your luck with another split tip.
