Mid pipes, Performance exhaust
I have a 135is and was wondering if anyone knows where the performance exhaust starts or if it goes all the way to the cats? I don't know much about the exhaust set up and would appreciate the help! Thanks

The performance exhaust has the rear muffler section and a y pipe to replace the resonator at the back end of the mid pipes.

Ok I think I saw the Y part you are talking about the other day when I had it on a lift. Is that part of the midpipe or is that a separate piece? Also, I see you have the Cobb springs, I was thinking about adding these to my car. Do you see any kind of difference in the handling after adding these to the msport suspension or is it just cosmetic? My car does sit a little high... Thanks

I actually had to cut the rear resonator out and install the y pipe section on the stock mid pipes. It comes with everything that you need to install (besides something to cut the exhaust) and has new clamps to hold the new y pipe section in place.
I love the cobb springs! It lowered my car just the right amount and isn't bouncy at all. It makes a difference when it comes to handling too. The overall ride is a little more stiff then stock but its not to stiff. I highly recommend them!

Ok, so the mid pipes are the same as the 135i? Do you know anyone who has upgraded these on an IS or another car with PE?
Do the down pipes on your car make a big difference in sound? Are they with or w/o cats? I'd love to see a picture of your car to see how low it is and what it looks like. I've heard you can mess up your shocks if you lower it too much so a little worried about that but I'd love to have it slightly lower.

Yes the mids are the same in the IS as they are in the I.
The downpipes made a huge difference in sound. I actually reinstalled the rear resonator once I installed the dp. I love the sound of it but its just to much for daily driving around here. Its quick and easy to install the y-pipe though when I want to change the exhaust up for a bit. The cobb springs I think are perfect for the stock shocks/struts(my opinion). It only drops the car about 1 inch front and rear so its not to harsh. I can tell the suspension is stiffer but not to stiff for daily driving.. Here is a picture that is decent at showing how low the car sits on Cobb springs.

The BMW Performance Exhaust y-pipe attached after the main (and secondary N54) cats. On both engines the y-pipe will bypass the resonator for the midpipe.

I'm thinking of doing the DPs and Y-Pipe at the same time, but keeping the n54 mids with the PE. Thoughts? |

A video I took just after installing the exhaust. Sorry the sound quality kinda sucks.... It sounds a little different now that the set up has some miles on it now. It has a deeper rumble to it..

Did the y pipe come with the PE exhaust or is that something you got somewhere else?

Hi all, this thread is very informative because I have the same situation. Bought a 2013 135is. While I love the exhaust note, the drone around 1,500-2,000 rpm becomes too tiresome for commute. If I want to downgrade the PE, I need to buy a 135i midpipe. Then it seems there are three options;
1) Replace midpipe+Y-pipe of the 135is with the new 135i midpipe. 2) Cut the resonator section of the new 135i midpipe and replace only the Y-pipe. 3) Find anybody who installed PE on a 135i and scavenge the resonator section from trash. #1 keeps everything intact. #2 makes it easiest to swap the resonator and Y pipe. #3 is the same as #2 but cheaper. Is my understanding correct? I would appreciate your help here. |

you exhaust note is superb. i love it. your video does do it some pretty good justice. did you or did you not cut the resonator on the n55 mid pipes? i also kind of thought that the IS came with the PE. when you compare pictures of the rear to that of the regular I, the IS has what appears to be larger pipes that look very similar to the PE pipes. the I has the standard black tips attached and looks a lot smaller in diameter. compare the rears and maybe someone can confirm this. maybe its just the axle back of the PE thats there and not the res-delete.

I should have been more clear before in my previous post... the PE consists of a rear section muffler and a y-pipe to bypass the mid pipe resonator.
Kleach also have a main cat delete, downpipe - that is why his exhaust sounds different to you. It has more bark. That is why Kleach deleted his y-pipe bc the exhaust was too loud for him, too unrefined he told me. Some people like this, some do not. The ones that do not also are not a fan of the added smell and not being able to pass a smog test. (PE)Pictures are always better than words... stock vs PE exhaust tips/muffler PE y-pipe resonator delete N55 mids vs N54 mids(w/2 secondary cats) #1 is the complete PE system...
