Rough idle, and poor shifts at 4k?

Hello,

i'm not sure if this has specifically been covered in a thread before, but on my 128i (N52N), the car seems to have a pretty rough idle. It likes to jump a fair bit within around a 500rpm range. Another thing I have noticed is the car doesn't like to shift at 4k, anything above or below is fine, just at 4K theres quite a bit of stutter (auto trans btw)

Any cause for this? the spark plugs and 2 ignition coils were replaced within 10k/km.

Thanks.

Not 100% sure about the 128 engine. However, I did have a similar experience with my N54; it was attributed to needed a walnut blasting.

While that probably needs to be done, just not sure where to get it done.

But for me as i suspected the fix was a new ignition coil

You 1000% do not need a walnut blast. Not now, not ever. Carbon buildup is only an issue on direct injection vehicles (N54/N55)

Thank you for the info, I wasn't 100% on the process, I just wasn't sure as my car has 140k km, good to know its not for the N52

No problem man. Your best bet is to check for codes to narrow down the issue
