Another EPIC Trip with awesome Pictures

Thanks for sharing, that looks like a lot of fun.

You´re 100 times more in the Alpine Region than me, and i live a hour away! What a shame

BtW. You can pay at some Gasstations at the Pump in Germany! Its called "Tankautomat" but it´s not very common in Germany.

@Dackelone took the blue and the red pill at the same time. So other board admins are still figuring out whether he's Neo or The Architect.

Dackelone,

Wow--great trip, great photos! Thanks for sharing. Schlümpfy called this report to my attention, and I'm so glad that he did.

I haven't driven in Germany, Italy, Austria, or Switzerland since 2001, so your write-up brought back many great memories. Mostly great, anyway. Our attempt to drive from Andermatt to Interlaken via the Furka Pass was foiled by a 10-foot-high pile of snow at the very top. I didn't realize that the Pass wasn't open until July! Still, it made quite an adventure.

Looks like I'll be hanging around the 1Addicts board now, too! Thanks again.

I don't usually post on forums, just lurk and inject something when I know it can help. Consider this thread the cause for my 1addict's coming out party. These pictures are fantastic and it looks like you all had a blast. I'm in Switzerland semi regularly for work, but have never driven a road. My schedule never permits it so I tend to view all of this beauty via the window of an SBB car. I'll be there again in a month or so and I think I will have to do whatever it takes to rent a car and drive to Sierre rather than ride the train. Last time I was there, they were running one of the rally stages not far away but I couldn't get away to go see it. I regret that, but then I'm not the one paying for the trip either. I am positive that my next BMW will have to be an ED with an extended stay for fun! Thanks a lot for sharing this so that the flatland folks can live vicariously.

Welcome and thanks for coming out!

You really should do ED, its such a great program. There are so many cool places to visit over here. Even after all the years I've been here, I still find new places I want to go visit.

Driving the Alps is always fun. Even IF things don't go quite to plan. Yea... many of these mountain passes don't open until late summer(July). Like the Timmelsjoch Pass had just opened a few weeks before we drove thru there. And then they hold a huge bicycle race there! lol Its fun though.

Welcome Rick, it's a pleasure to have you here.

Most of my experience is for work. I am in and out of Zurich and then hop trains or planes through Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. I'm aiming to take the high speed rail from Geneva to Paris rather than a city jet this time out. I went on the autobahn once in Germany, but I didn't drive and it was in a Ford C-MAX. Pretty much got passed by guys on bicycles.

Yea... you have not lived until you experience a train traveling at 250 kph! In a few years(by 2017, I think?) the high speed rail network will be finished in Europe/Germany and it will allow the ICE(InterCity Express) trains to travel in the 300+ kph range. This will make high speed train travel FASTER than short leg plane travel. Because the train stations are located in the center of the cities, unlike most airports.

Enjoy your TGV train ride on your next visit. Its really a great way to travel.

I took my 3er on a similar route last year. Started in K-Town (I live in Erfenbach), though Lucerne, up the Susten, Furka, and Gottard passes. Around Lake Como with a stop a Lake Guarda. After a two days in Venice I drove up through Bolzano and ended up in Garmisch.

It was a religious experience for me.

Unfortunately, I'm out of here in a month. I have only a road trip to Normandy to look forward to.

That's how it was for all of us too. That is one reason, for the last three years, we have had the same "core group" of EU 1Addicts coming on our tours.

You know I've never been to Normandy. It's on my List though.
There is a nice auto museum in LeMans, near Normandy. Also the Paris Auto Show is open until Oct 19th.

take care Brother. Maybe our paths will cross on your next tour over here.

Join us on our next year's tour! We are already starting to plan it. I'm thinking in late June or July time frame.

Arrow CLOSED! Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse AG

Last night the seasons first real snow fell on the Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse AG, aka Solden Pass(Austria). So the Timmelsjoch Hochalpenstrasse Pass was only open from June to Oct this year.

Soon, these passes will look like this! No wonder why skiers love the Sella area.

Thanks for the kind words Renato!

This years trip was really nice. We have such a great group of BMW enthusiasts on 1Addicts that it is always fun meeting in a new land for some spirited driving.

Stumbled across your posts here after your commentary re: the BMW boat. Incredible journal!

Your photo of Stiegl made me grin. I spent a summer in Austria as a teenager, and fell in love with Stiegl while there. Good memories. Prost!
