DCT shifter

Ok I'm tired of the ugly stick that all the automatic/DCT 1ers come with but I'm not seeing many options, anyone have links?? I was talking to 2 dealers about the M3 knob but they say it won't work in our car, if you know it will let me know as well because I like that one.

Here is one option I've seen: http://www.motivemods.com/BMWRetrofi...mm-sst-m10.htm

In Action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=CbqnfYu-gek

Couple things to note
  • DS is facing opposite side
  • Gear selector release button is eliminated
From this thread where you can find more photos of it installed http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...php?p=13493155

I went with the OEM gloss black knob which isn't nearly as exciting

That is exactly what I want however, in talking to them it is for steptronic only and does not integrate with DCT so it does work. It also sounded like they had no interest in exploring that market so I'm really SOL. If anyone knows any other company doing this mod for DCT this is exactly what I'm looking for...

Sorry misread and thought you had Steptronic! The DCT shifter seems pretty nice, what don't you like about it?

Honestly, everything. I think it's ugly and I just want something small and simple like the one above which is in the M series.

Seriously!!! What the hell is the silver? I seriously considered wrapping everything silver in my car because it does not work with anything else. It should have either been the color of the trim or the body color. I emailed motivemods because they have the mods with the boot change but no dice on a DCT. I think the hold up is the fact that you have to push the gear select button to get the car in initial gear and the M knob has no buttons. If there was a way to reprogram around that we'd be golden because you don't need the park button since it goes into park automatically when you turn off the car. I don't know enough about programming but I feel like there has to be a way to program the car similar to the M to make it work but IDK.

Just don't get how nobody is making anything even just with a button that looks better.

The only one I ever thought might work would be the carbon fiber M5 performance DCT shifter, but don't know if it would work, not sure it really is THAT much better, and if it would require some kind of modification to fit. They're subtly different and better looking, but may not really solve the issues you're having that you want to improve.

It's been discussed before, but don't think anybody has ever tried it.

I wish we could just swap out the whole box I mean it shouldn't be this hard to swap out a damn knob. Ugh, I just want the M shifter dammit!

This is the company that made a plug and play retrofit kit for the steptronic so I am certain they could make it for the DCT. On the steptronic each individual light illuminates as it should. I am not sure of the specific limitations with the dct but it is worth a shot.

Well tonight I had a few drinks and got bored.. decided to throw a few coats of plasti-dip on the fugly silver trim ring.. I can deal with the shifter but the ring had to go. I think it looks 100% better..

That looks real nice. Did you pull the trim off or tape off the area and spray. Looks much better than stock.

It's actually very different and in fact I have already confirmed with them that they do not have anything that works with DCT. I believe steptronic has where you still bring the knob down into the gears and DCT does not (could be wrong) nevertheless right now the issue seems to be the button to get the car into gear not being on the m shifter. I'm trying to figure something out but thus far, no dice.

I pulled the base-plate off and the silver part detatches from it.. super easy (and very cheezy)

This eBay auction (seller looks like BMW dealer) says this carbon bits should fit the 135i despite saying it's for the F-series

That looks like its not the whole shifter. Just the face and buttons. I think you'd need to buy an F20 shifter as well and combine them and hope it fits the 135i...

I mean this makes the shifter look a little better but then you for sure need to pull out the trim and wrap or paint it. Either way it isn't the look I would want or the feel I am looking for. I want the lower smaller knob that doesn't stand out like a sore thumb and it sounds like a few people agree but nothing is out there.
