Tired Of All The 1 series Whining & Negativity...
For a bunch of so-called BMW "enthusiasts" MANY (NOT all) of you are truly UNenthusiastic, depressing whiners. And please don't blame it on having problems with your 1 series. If you think that a Lexus would be "trouble free" perhaps you should visit some of the Lexus forums on the net... Or talk to my neighbor who has a two year old ES that doesn't start on a regular basis and has left her stranded. Lexus has "fixed the problem" (and been rude about it) several times already. She would try to "Lemon" it if it weren't near the end of the Lease.
NO car is perfect, and ours just happen to be much more complex than most Ricers. Every time I try to post something POSITIVE about the 135 I get a HUGE amount of sarcastic or dismissive posts. In all my years posting on the 3 Series forums I never experienced anything like it... and BELIEVE ME, 3 series owners have their share of problems with those cars as well. My father, who in his old age has become fond of that "Transportation Appliance" known as the Toyota Camry, had one completely die while driving 70 mph on 95 in Florida... and the car was 5 days old! I have put 8000 miles on my car since MAY... and I love it. Honestly, I have had no serious issues at all... unlike what I experienced the first few months with my 2008 335i Coupe. I understand that some of you are frustrated but overall you are driving a GREAT "DRIVERS" car that is superior in MANY ways to most of the crap on the road today. Have A Nice Day Joseph

Yeah, the hate and discontent runs deep on this site sometimes. I think it comes down to perspective and expectations. Also, I tend to think that people who complain regularly here are probably just complainers in life; it's just a behavior that they're accustomed to.
Personally, I love my 1er. It's been an absolute blast to own every day.

Hey, I love my car, and I worked my ass off saving up for it. I worked hard for it, and I defend it (especially against those hating M3 owners). Sure, its not perfect and there are some things that annoy me, but I have said the good outweighs the bad. I'm happy to be driving around my "accomplishment" that I've worked so hard for.

As I sit in the dealership waiting for the seat belt recall to be finished I am not at a high point of my bimmer ownership. But it has not given me any trouble. And it is nice that BMW seems to be erring on the side of frequent recalls rather than erring on the side of covering up problems as long as possible.
I still am very pleased with my little bimmer. But I wouldn't mind if I didn't get another recall notice. Jim

I've had a number of big problems with my vehicle like top replacement and HPFP replacement but my dealer has been awesome in dealing with it so I'm pretty happy. I do hear what you're saying though. That's why I don't read the negative posts too much.

I agree completely that our cars are great driving cars and I smile from ear to ear when I get behind the wheel and push the start button every day. I get home from vacations and can't wait to get behind the wheel and drive a real car with feeling and emotion. It's only when you rent a car or drive another persons car that you realize just how great our cars are.
As much as my car makes me happy, I am in many ways I am like a battered wife. When the car is in a good mood it can do no wrong. This has been the experience for many owners. When the car has a few drinks it can also leave you stranded. It's not whining, it's reality. My car shit out on me the day I was supposed to leave for vacation... oh and it was also on my birthday to boot. That's borderline cruel, especially from a vehicle I love so much. What I am trying to say is that we all love our cars but some of us have had to go through a different ownership experience than other owners. I do believe that a $46k car should go a little more than 6,000 miles before it leaves you stranded. I'm not whining or being a natural complainer, I'm simply stating the facts. That all being said, overall I would give my car a 97/100. Sure, it gets a -10 for reliability but it gets a +7 for the smile factor. I love, love, love this car despite a few drunken slaps across the face.

I have to defend myself all the time on this forum (step vert)
I hate the blind hate out there how does wanting the ease of an auto in NYC and a softtop make me less of an enthusiast? I've decided not to keep the car tho...too many little things that will add up post warranty. My lease is up in august next year and I'll be studying abroad so I wonder if I can do an 8 month Ed and roadtrip through Europe in a shiny new 1M? my dealer owes me for putting up with how shitty my car has been on the reliability front. Seriously I'm in my dealership at least once a month haha. |

I love my 128. I have nothing negative to say about my 1.
The only thing I don't like about this forum is the lack of 128 respect. |

I never understood the vert /= enthusiast thing either. The Lotus Exige/Elise is a vert and the car remains an enthusiasts wet dream. How about the Ferrari F50? That's more about ignorance. Being in NYC is your reason for having auto and I think it's completely legit. If you lived in the great plains I might take issue with it...

The Internet of course makes this trait much "worse" since it is hitting a bigger and wider audience then bumping into people around town. I understand your feeling that all the negativity is frustrating, but first and foremost forums like this are supposed to be about us helping each other by forming a community. If everyone was posting "my car functioned exactly as expected today" threads it would be very difficult to find answers to actual problems when they do occur. My wife loves her e90 and outside of being on it's 3rd radio, a few trim issues, and the xDrive failing it's been a reliable car. Would it really be helpful if she posted regularly about how it is doing exactly what she bought it for? |

When I did my research on Euro Delivery, I recall reading that the car can stay in Europe for up to six months, then it has to be exported. I'm not sure if there is a way to extend that time frame, but there probably is a loophole somewhere. For example, I think some of the military guys stationed in Europe have been driving their US spec cars around for longer than that.

I say bah humbug! Anyone who is looking for value in a BMW is highly misguided. BMWs are expensive to buy and even more expensive to maintain out of warranty. I believe there are positive posters like us who know what we were getting into and are true enthusiasts versus people who just want the badge at the lowest price and discover, wow! what did I get myself into! These are typically former "transportion appliance owners". I know because, even though BMW bought back my last car, I still purchased another BMW. I just wish I did it earlier rather than wait 2 years in an Audi, believing it to be superior to BMW, when it wasn't at least in the driving experience department. As I have always advised others, know that a BMW is a high maintenance car that produces incredible positive driving emotion. If Lexus could do what a BMW can, BMW would be out of business. And we know that is not going to happen any time soon.

I love mine. I have a car for each purpose, and my 135i vert (MT) is most excellent, especially given that it CAN be quite fuel efficient, as well as very powerful.
The problem really IMO is that everyone expects an M3 while buying a 1xx. If you wanted more, go buy an M3 or a porsche. Nothing wrong with getting one of those over a 1 series... At the end of the day, the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and only people with issues post bigtime on them. The folks who have a perpetual honeymoon dont usually get so vocal. The 1 series is a great vehicle for what it is - BMW type driving dynamics without the bloat of other cars. Dont like it, get something else. A car is too expensive a proposition to not be happy with it... If you got stuck in a contract that you can't get out of, or jumped in too quick, not much anyone can do. Learn and move on. If it means everyone moves out of BMW, then they go out of business. Something tells me that will not happen... |

I see a lot of 135i bashing not only from M-series owner, but also 3-series owners as well. And numerous 1-series owners bish about their cars. I have a few minor complaints about the 1-series, but its more of a materialistic thing than a mechanical thing. The car does what it was manufactured for. My personal favorite is the "dodgy brakes." I have not once experienced any problems with the brakes thus far. And have yet to drive a car that its brakes don't get heat soaked after 20 minutes of hardcore driving. But whatever. If it makes them sleep better at night to bash the car, then so be it.
P.S. I am an ex-M3 owner. Do I miss it...EFF YES...beast of a car, but the warranty was up, the car was 9 years old, and I was ready for a new project. |

I had a 335. It was perfect. zero issues... (have an x3, had aZcoupe and other 3 and 5...)
I bought a 135... And I have had it fewer days than BMW. It's been back several times (starting the next day after purchase...). But even I'm less bitter than some folks... I would guess that's down to a pretty good dealership so far and the fact that I have loved the past several BMW's... It's also down to the fact that I give the a$$holes that sometimes ride the roundel virtually zero attention and I don't give a damn how big they think their dicks are because Mine makes me happy... You can see it at the dealership... There are some real sh!theels in the BMW owner family. Genuine tools... They start looking at your car and shoes and watch the second theuy step out of their cars... They try and talk loud and in a fashion that requires them to "have the floor"... Hell, they wont make eyecontact with someone driving a series up. And I love that no matter what model, shoes, watch cock(or breast)-size, I have a happier life than they do... If they cant make the 1 I bought work well enough, I'll get another 1... I like the car. I like the dealer (so far)... |

Sweet. Can't wait to deal with the stellar Chapman BMW service department. I should have listened to my old man's one nugget of wisdom he ever told me. "Son. If it has tits or tires, its bound to give you headaches." I failed to listen to him on both accounts. Numerous times.
