golf tee mod worth doing on a 128i???

hello everyone, i looked over the golf tee mod diy and its pretty cool and looks like its easy to do but is it worth doing on the 128i exhaust or will it only sound good for 35's twin turbo exhaust? thanks in advance

I think it personally sounds better on the 128i then 135i. I would do it, nothing you can lose. I had it before getting my performance exhaust. Made it a bit deeper on low RPMS, no affect on performance, just for sound

Sounds great.

Had it for about a year now and cold starts make me blush.

Its a keeper...Im a little older now, and have had my fare share of loud exhausts.. I ould have gotten the Perf exh, but in my daily drive the drone / noise would get to me..

I did the mod with a zip tie, and just pinched off the hose...

Best zip tie i ever used LOL

Also there has to be some gain somewhere knowing that both pipes are open all the time.....

BMW Performance exhaust on my 128i Cabrio and there's no drone...the sound is really great. Oh yeah - I'm 63, so the "I'm getting a little bit older now" thing applies to me too, but the Performance Exhaust is just right. If that's not your thing, the golf-tee mod takes 5 minutes at most and is definitely worth it.

No, because there's no flapper valve on the BMW PE - you get a stub to connect the vacuum hose so it won't leak.

Just curious about what is meant by "you get a stub to connect the vacuum hose so it won't leak."? When I had my PE installed by an indy mechanic, he wondered about plugging the tube, and we decided just to put a stainless screw in it. Seems to have worked so far, but is this an adequate fix?

Same here, never noticed much of a difference. I think it's the mod placebo effect for some people.

Weird, there's a noticeable difference from what I've experienced with my car. After I did the mod, I had friends asking me if I put on an aftermarket exhaust. Also, just had my car in for service a couple weeks ago and I got a '12 128i loaner. The dealer valet was pulling my car away as another valet was pulling the loaner up and you could immediately tell the difference between the cars.

It means just what was said - where the flapper valve was on the stock muffler, there is a metal rod stub about 1" long sticking out to put the hose over. It is the same as putting a golf tee or whatever in it. I'm surprised neither you or the mechanic noticed it.

I think it is worthwhile but I tested the result with my radio shack sound pressure meter. It only really increases the loudness at cold start. Once the engine is warmed up, there was no difference. With the golf tee = louder at cold start but no different once warmed up. Still for no cost = worth doing.

No attitude intended. I managed to scrape my hand on the stub while installing, so it was blatantly obvious.

I'm guessing that the people that didn't notice a difference either did it incorrectly or have a hearing problem.

I did it by disconnecting the plug inside the trunk and the sound difference is night and day from 0 - 3000 rpm's.

If you like it or not is up to you, but the difference is dramatic.

I love it and I constantly get compliments. Some people have even asked me if I have a performance exhaust.

I will say again, there is a difference before the car is warmed up and no difference afterward. I mostly measured at low rpm but I don't think it matters. If you do not believe me, find a sound meter and measure your car. You will find the exhaust becomes quieter as it warms up.
