LSD install costs - Carrier pumpkin or bolt
I'm very interested for the opinions of those who have installed LSDs in their 135is regarding the cost of install.
I have a 2008 135i MT welded diff. Mfactory are currently running a preorder for a helical LSD with machined ring + pinion. This should mean simply swapping out the welded ring gear and henceforth having the bolted type diff. The order is currently running around US$1450 including shipping. (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...light=mfactory) For additional $1000 they will ship installed within a refurbished pumpkin core. With a $500 rebate if you ship your pumpkin back to them. I am tossing up which way to go depending on how: much bolted LSD install cost runs at vs how much a pumpkin core change would cost. Additionally I feel that the shipping costs of sending my old pumpkin to the US may take a sizeable slice out of the $500 rebate. Opinions greatly appreciated. |

If you get in on the group buy I don't think it will be worth getting them to install into a used pumpkin as to get your $500 rebate your more than likely spending $300-$400 in shipping to get it back to the states. So lets say its a $100 rebate worst case scenario.
So compare that to a local shop that will build your LSD with the core and ring/pinion you supply. Ring around and see if its less than $900. If it is, you will be saving $$$. People have been throwing around figures like $500 to rebuild but do your research and ring some specialists. |

And let me know what you find too please :-) I'm also interested in that group buy.
I've been quoted $4200 for supply and install of a Quaife locally, so it could be a bargain if we can find cheap install. Last edited by Griffster; 07-25-2014 at 03:35 AM.. |
