Question 120i Cabriolet e88 Performance Filter (K&N)

Hey guys.

I have a '09 120i Cabrio (the new engine with 125kw)

Thinking of installing this in my car:

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...Prod=57-0648-1

I have a few questions regarding this.

- What are the advantages / disadvantages of installing one?

- Are there other brands which are preferred or recommended?

- I've heard problems with oil-type filters regarding oil getting on the MAF sensor. How does one avoid this? Are there safer alternatives?

- It doesn't seem to come with a heat shield.. Is this bad?

- Will this void my motor plan? I'm sure I can just replace the stock air box when taking the car in for a service?

- Are there other alternative mods which I should consider rather than this? (in a similar price range) without voiding my motor plan?

Mainly like it for the looks and the better sound it will produce, but don't want the engine to suffer because of bad filteration etc.

I know performance gains will be minimal (if not anything) being a NA engine, but i'm not too worried about that.

Once installed it will look as such:

Another thing. I see in the installation manual, they put the induction pipe under the vehicle as such:

- Is this a good idea? Wouldn't it suck in all the dirt and water and crap from the ground?

- Wouldn't it be better to put it somewhere else like in the front bumper or something?

Would really appreciate some advice regarding this!

Thanks in advance guys!

piece of shit... if the manual really said about the induction pipe goes there.....
your engine will be broken
and for the filter.... you would have to worry about heat sock...
you will actually feel losing power...
just wait for injen intake......

here is the extract from the manual pdf for that illustration:

Regarding the heat shield, is that true? Could i get an aftermarket one to fit onto this or get one made?

Thanks again

I guess you're right.. Are there any replacement performance filters for my car? As in not the whole induction like above, just the filter. atm it has a stock cylindrical filter.

When's the injen intake coming out? Will it fit on my 120i?
Or is there anything else I can look at?

Thanks man

K&N has always made drop-in filters for most cars & motorcycles - most folks seem to feel that there is little if any, advantage over stock.

only changing the filter wont make noticeable sound.....
if for sound wise.. you need exhaust,
if you wanna go cheap route, delete the cat which I dont recommend

It would void my warranty (both)

Basically I am going to get an intake/induction but i want to know which one to get.

Is there anything wrong with this K&N one, because if not then i am going to get it.

I've heard Apexi filteration is pretty good, but i dont think they make them for BMW's?

What are my alternatives? Injen i see are making for the 128i, but surely this wont fit on my 4 cylinder 120i? What else is there?

Thanks
