Vorsteiner Vented Race Hood + CSL Boot Lid for the 135i: Design Sketches

Hey guys
We had such success with the V-35 hood for the 335i that we co-developed with Vorsteiner that we decided to get a head-start on the design work for the 135i while they are busy wrapping up some other projects

Opinions welcome, but be nice, I did all the design work myself and definitely didn't go to design school

What do you guys think?

Thanks for looking
JL

Send me one now!

Both look nice but how does this work in the rain? I assume water gets into the engine bay?

Make the hood ram air and it would be great.
More info on rear deck before deciding.

+1

I would only buy it if it is performance related.

Thanks for your inputs guys.
Here is some info for you.

During the rain, water does get in the engine bay, and it's no problem unless you have an exposed air filter. In that case, you can have one or both sides sealed during production.

Also, the center vent is actually designed to vent heat from where the engine bay collects it most, which is right behind the radiator! We have done extensive testing on the 335i, which has the same motor as the 135i, and determined this to be the best place.

Thanks!

Oh, im interested in the regular vented hood, but a decision awaits til the final product or prototype is out. Please continue this as quick as possible and my eyes will be peeled for whats to come.

I honestly dont like making things look too far from stock, but as hot as it gets in the engine bay of the 1, I figure any extra air cooling is probably better

I like the big scoope for heat dispersion, but what are the two side vents for? They just make it look ricey I think.

Oh and while you are at it, can you extend the hood a bit to shape the headlights better? Somebody on the forum has designed a pretty good looking one (but I don't have a pic of it).

Wow, i'm looking forward to the final product, what is the pricing on the 335 items and should it be similar for the 135?

I think the vents on the second sketch look better.

And I agree that if the hood covered part of the headlight, it would look better. Like this pic:

Here is my first attempt. This is with a more elongated "boser" style (look it up if you're under 25 years old and don't know what a boser hood is  ) projection that just extends the factory line and adjusts the angle to meet up with the front fascia in the right place.

I will do another one with the more angular type of design that you drew up there. Thank you for posting that pic, it helps a lot

Keep the critiques coming. I'm really getting into this. Maybe I'll quit my job and start designing parts

Here are some sketches based on that photoshop...

So now we have:
-2 Vent Styles
-3 Eyelid Styles (one is without eyelids)

This makes a total of 6 possible combinations I passed 3rd grade math
