Doesn't surprise me. M3 parts + shorter wheelbase, ligther car, more torque. On a short technical track this is an expected outcome.
It has to be a fun car to drive. Wonder how it will fair on the Nurburgring, where the M3 can stretch its legs? |

I am happy and also a bit surprised at the results....Dont get me wrong, I have my 1M ordered and I am a big fan, But a lot of bloggers here are confusing these track results by claiming that the 1M is faster than the M3. ALthough it may have beaten the M3 track time in this instance, on a long dry run, the M3 will eventually out run the 1M once out of the lower gears.....The M3 truly comes into its own after 4th gear

1M suits this track more than M3. I am glad that I am getting my car next month.
I hope people stop bashing 1M. Because cars are developed for different reasons. This does not make M3 any worse than what it was. If you are buying a car to race, get one with fully adjustable suspension and aero. If not just drive the car and buy what you want. |

very good news, because this shows that BMW m did not fear that the 1m could get even or be faster than its bigger brother the m3. but instead it has built a great car to make every m enthusiast fascinated about. by the way, iam not saying or assuming that the 1m is a faster car than the m3 is, but what i mean is that it is a very capable machine to achieve the same lap time on Hockenheim as the m3 with DCT.

The M3 is my car of choice and I am confident as the 1M hits the streets we will see what it can really do - I am positive it will be very popular. If a 1M challenged an M3 on the streets it be a fun race that im saying the M3 would win. I am excited that BMW is making such incredible sports cars in 2 different price ranges.

I'm very impressed. Congrats to BMW for not holding back on the 1M.

I think the 1M is an awesome car. I'd have loved to buy one if I could have lived with a smaller two door car.
Here in Canada a 1M starts at $53k and change + tax. The E90 M3 starts at $70,300 + tax. The 1M is great value. I can't wait to see one around town. Hopefully the driver will want to stop and chat a bit. Enjoy all.

I was there also today. The car looks so damn tough in person however the seats and the fact that the rear openings on the bumper are purely cosmetic are a minus. I will be upgrading the seats for sure.

So much for a high revving NA V8. Just what does it take to go fast? Some folks around here need to stop bitching about turbocharging.
