Doubt it will be totaled though. Even replacement of most of the body panels would be cheaper I think and remove damage from the rest. Respray entire car. I'd be pissed! Poor guy.

Agreed, but personally I don't think I would be able to keep the car. Every time I would look at it I would remember what happened and it would annoy me to no end.

Agreed! It truly is! I feel that these two pieces together make up what a LOT of people look for in a major exhaust modification in their cars. The cold starts too. Omfg... I work in a parking garage and I still keep my door or windows open to take the reverberation of the exhaust right back in!

I REALLY LIKE the Whiteline bushing inserts. If I had to quantify the benefit, I would say it realistically removed 60-70% of that bouncy feeling. How I came up with the numbers, it's more than half but there's still some bounce on the bigger dips. No increase in harshness and I'm almost certain if/when I ditch the run flats the car will feel even more compliant. Total labor install was 1.5hrs but could be done in less time by a more mechanically inclined person.
Yesterday installed a set of Whiteline inserts after reading 3002 tii's experience with them. After a test drive I am extremely pleased with the results... for me it was well worth the effort to install. In general the rear of the car feels much more planted and secure. I’d also say the bumps tend seem to be better damped... perhaps they are attenuated differently now that the inserts are installed. If you are thinking of installing a set I would definitely take a look at the DIY: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=875885

Awesome, glad you like them. Like I said before, I'm sure M3 bushings are better but I don't think it's worth the cost in parts and especially labor. For $50, I've achieved 70% of the benefits of M3 bushings for a fraction of the cost.

Today I dropped off my car at a high end body shop to get the rear bumper resprayed from that valet incident. I've also asked them to touch up the lower door (rock chip) and refinish the rear right wheel. Car should be ready by Saturday and she'll be like new once again

Installed Blacklines Today

Installed my LCI Blacklines this morning. Simple retrofit. Subtle difference in the shade, but much more pronounced in the sun. Gives the car a slightly more up-to-date appearance. Heck, even new Honda Civics have blackline-style taillights these days...

Here are some before and after photos. Definitely an improvement.

BMW Performance Suspension?

To 3002 tii and others (more knowledgeable than me),

I'm kinda contemplating the BMW performance suspension, and wondering if anybody has driven a 135 with it to have any firsthand knowledge. I'll probably never track my car and is mostly just my daily driver with occasional spirited driving, but just kinda want to improve the handling, try to make a cheap alternative to a 1M and ultimately the M2, and the slight lowering, while very small, looks pretty good. I may also do that and the m3 bushings at the same time to hopefully keep labor down. I figure this might be a better thing to do long-term for my car than the Dinan stage 2 software.

I know Worra contemplated it for a bit, not sure where you stand now, and also not sure where you're at on your decision 3002 tii. Would love for you to put your PSS on first since I already have those, as does Rick, to give us your thoughts on things like this. I also could still go the whiteline inserts route as you and Rick did as opposed to full on m3 bushings.

Just bored and wondering if I spend 2-3k in upgrades to make my car as good as possible, if that may have me keep it longer and not drop huge chunks of change down the road on a potential M2. ANy thoughts, insight, advice would be greatly appreciated since I'm a novice when it comes to suspension upgrades.

I'm more curious than bored and still may get the dinan stage 2. Basically what I'm trying to consider or perhaps do is address and improve the weakest part of our cars, which most will probably agree is the suspension. Then the question is, will the suspension upgrade + potentially the dinan tune make the car essentially perfect or very 1M like and something I may never want to get rid of and get something else.

We've hardly heard a peep from you and the Beast to the Beast power. Guessing you've put 15k miles on it by now. =P How's it doing? And handling, too? I still want to hear what it SOUNDS like with stage 3 + PE.

nah, I'm almost at 10K. its fun, tap the gas, hear the turbo spool up all the while wooowe I go... The 408 lbs of tq is very evil. The PE's decelerating burble is deeper, more poppy and narley. I now drive it in DCT manual all the time now just to hear those growls.

Oh yeah, the best part is when I hit that start button in the morning, it actually starts.

PS: I thinking about bring it in for those Whiteline subframe inserts and a Dinan Rear Upper Shock Mount Kit to try to make the car less hoppy and more planted.

With the amount of power you're putting down now, you might want to consider the full on m3 subframe bushings, though obviously a lot more expensive. I need to fly to NY and take a ride in this thing. I may at least test drive an N55 335 with Dinan Stage 2 I saw being sold used. At least then I'll have a good idea of how it feels, though only 401 ft-lbs of torque. =(

Just added 1M strut bar, install was fairly straightforward. Only OEM piece that clears N55 and doesn't require you to modify your plastic trim. Best of all you now have access to your shock towers should you decide to get camber plates.

Gotta wipe down the bay, still not sure where I want to place the Performance Kit badge though...

So my mothers California gold class wash n wax bottle finally ran out and I switched to meguiars gold wash cause it had good reviews. I'm split on the cleaning power and post wash shine of one va the other, but I wanna say geebus, what a difference afterwords! The car would look filthy within a day of washing it with the mothers California gold, but with this new meguiars soap, it's now been almost a whole week, driven through rain, and the 1 still looks like I washed it yesterday! Can't believe how much of a difference this stuff made.
All of this so I could post pics
No but really, huge difference.

Man the black looks good and wheels and PE really pop off it. I suppose I could upload a picture of my car going THROUGH a car wash this morning. Looking good there! Just needs a tint. =P

A real exciting photo of my car going through the car wash this morning.

And then, typical LA, I love that everyone waiting for their cars are all just staring down at their phones, oblivious to the world and me taking a picture of them.

More like typical 'anywhere USA.' I've seen children walking into the street in harms way because their parents were too busy staring at their phones a few feet away; also, children wandering in restaurants while their parents ate and stared at their addiction.

I refuse to drink the kool-aid. A dumb phone works for me if I have to talk to someone. When my sons were teenagers many moons ago, I canceled my cell phone for a year to teach my sons a lesson on 'planning ahead.' No longer were they able to reach me as an afterthought because they were in a bind due to spur of the moment decision making.

I think it worked as they are great organizers now.

Rant over.

Sorry, what was that? I was reading an e-mail.

I'm with you. Everybody and their stupid phones and ipads, walking down crowded streets or skyscraper lobbies half a mile an hour blocking foot traffic, smashing into others, unable to figure out what floor the elevator is on, etc. etc.

The only positive though is when I see people at work or in the elevators at work that I really don't want to talk to or deal with, I PRETEND to be doing or reading something on my phone. Squinting adds to the effect and makes it look serious. So, once in a blue moon it's a wonderful avoidance technique.

To make a long story short, my car is clean, so now it's on topic. =)
