Long term storage
Hi everyone,
I am planning on NOT driving my car for a while because I moving to a city where it's easier for public transportation. So I was wondering what is the forums recommendation on proper engine maintenance for periods of time where the car is not driven. I have a trickle charger that I plan on hooking up and the car will be kept in my parents garage. Like should I tell my dad to drive it at least once a month or something? So that the engine could be lubricated? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank again! |

It would be a good idea to start it up every other week or so. You might want to add some fuel stabilizer (prevents the fuel from turning into gel). Have the oil changed before if it hasn't been done for awhile. Check the tires once a month, and move the car so it is not sitting on the same spot to avoid the tires from getting a permanent flat spot.

When I put my vehicles in storage I apply a fuel stabilizer, add 10 lbs. of air to the tires,an oil change unless done, attach a "battery tender" then let it sit. The vehicles were started when they were ready to be moved in the spring.

you most definately will want to start eh vehicles evry few weeks. Fuel Stabilizer is a must especilly with the ethanol that we Americans put in as fillers. Kind of like pink slime for hamburgers. that is how i picture it.
