What unexpected maintenance have you guys done lately?

Hi everyone, just wanting to see what everyone else's cars are like.

I bought my 135i about 6 months ago and in that time have had to replace the following:

HPFP
Waterpump and Thermostat
Vacuum lines
Charge Pipe
Boost solenoids (I actually just cleaned these and it's fixed it for now)

I know that these are all relatively common issues and I was prepared for that going in but I definitely didn't expect to get hit with everything in such a short period! Anyway, how are all of your cars going?

Replaced coils to sort out some misfires which worked last week.

Previous owner did HPFP, WP/Thermostat in last 2 years, and sparks a few months ago. Looking back into the VIN I found replaced turbos, injectors, flywheel/clutch, 3rd brake light, passenger seat chime plate, tail-lights.... all under warranty.
I should be sweet for another few years fingers crossed after walnut blasting and getting a CP.

I've had my water pump and thermostat replaced after the car overheated and shut off while I was doing 100km/hr on the freeway!

Other than that my experience has been pretty good with the 135i, replaced the spark plugs and coil packs recently as I was getting misfires after running a tune

- Battery was leaking battery acid into the plastic tray (thank god its a plastic that doesn't react with acid)
- Ignition coils (misfire)
- Cylinder head -> thermostat water hose (plastic flange crumbled and leaked at the track)
- Brake booster check valve (leaked vacuum when parked)
- New windscreen (opened the bonnet with the wipers up )

I am sure theres plenty more to go wrong haha

I love your windscreen one ahahah

You've actually reminded me that my battery used to leak acid too, I drove it around like that for 2.5 years

Are you saying that the turbos were replaced under BMW Australia warranty? I had no idea that was a thing. I'm almost certain mine need fixing, what are required for them to be replaced (km, year etc.)

I'm not sure but in the records it just said customer reported strange noise. It's a 2008 so much have been at least 5 years ago under the first owner (I'm third). You can run your vin with somone that works with bmw to get the full history if your not first owner =)

All new brakes and Oil filter housing gasket after 90,000km on my 2008 are the only things Ive HAD to do apart from coils and plugs but that was only after a tune. Still on my original fuel pumps, waterpump, thermostat and injectors. (fingers crossed)

Sounds like you've had pretty much smooth sailing!

Was the oil filter housing gasket a big job? Roughly how many hours of labour?

I have replaced 3rd brake light, some engine oil seals and one of the turbos. All done under used car warranty.
I also got a service light saying worn brakes but when I took it in it was just a fault in the service light!!

Water pump & thermostat at 68 000km (also failed on me at 100km/hr on the freeway with no warning!)
Oil filter housing gasket
Third brake light cracked (yet to replace. Anyone know cheapest place to source as $150 is a bit steep for some plastic?)

Other than that it's been smooth sailing.

Coil packs, spark plugs.

Otherwise hasn't had any issues. Enjoying it and this is why I'm just leaving it standard.

Mo' power mo' problems. Cbf in my old age haha

Without wanting to jinx myself, my my10 135i has been super reliable.
It has 94000km and has original everything. Just normal servicing (by myself after warranty).

Maybe they ironed out some of the issues for the my10... (Oct 09 build date)

I don't think so. Mines '08 and hasn't had many issues. The 1er is one of those cars that if you give respect, it offers you respect back. Kind of reminds me of my old R32 GT-R lol. Mistreat it and you're chewing bearings etc which is super costly for the RB26 haha

Are your rotors the EBC sport dimpled and slotted? Do yours happen to make a ticking sound with the windows down (mine do)?

How much did yours cost? I know you have to replace the whole long plastic piece with the threaded screws on the back.

Oil filter housing gasket 2x's
Water pump at 79k
Spark plugs and injectors
Front and rear brake pads (cracked)
All covered under cpo warranty

Had to replace intake manifold due to my impatience and breaking the cheap vacuum line nipple while install charge pipe/bov.
