Take over lease on a 335i or Wait for the 1

A friend is leaving the country, he put down 4500 and pays 660 on a loaded 335i, Motego blue, sadle brown interior, sports package, great rims, everything but nav, which I dont want. So the question is, he is willing to eat the 4500, I only have to pay 660 for the remaining 27months. I was planning on buying the 135i putting 5000 down and going with 60-72 month financing. Some of you guys are great with the numbers, so let me know what you think. I like both these models for differnt reasons but I dont think I would be disappointed with either. thanks in advance.

nothing compares to owning a new car....but the 335i is a beautiful and powerful car. I would personally wait...esp since he wont have a problem selling the car is eats the 4500

i say no! you can lease a 335i now for less money down and less a month even though you are not putting money down but you are getting a used car.

but a 335 is great car

money wise- i say no
if money is no issue to you then go for it

Be very careful about the terms of the lease. I'm not convinced you could just "take it over" without notifying BMW and going through some kind of transfer process. Also consider whether your insurer will cover you on a car that isn't in your own name. Lots of potential pitfalls here.

Your friend should look into breaking the lease. There may be an escape clause in the event he's leaving the country, especially if it's for military service.

I've driven this car already and really like the performace. I looked at the config on bmwusa and it appears he got the leather interior, sports package, 19'rims and the metalic paint. The 19's really make it look sporty. Before taxes its, 579/month. with taxes it works out exactly to 660. So will a 135 with sports package, and metalic paint(id opt for leatherette) be alot cheaper considering the 4500. thanks for the reply's thus far.

Where is he at in miles, you could take over and be way beyond miles or have other issues that will cost you big at lease return. I personally if given the same payment amount basically would take owning a car anyday over leasing a car!!!

BMW leases are 100% transferable (only once I believe). You'd be on the hook for the remaining 27 months of payments if you "assumed" the lease, or $17,820 worth of payments in total.

You need to find out how many miles the car has, how many are allowed total in the lease (12k/yr?), and whether that will work for you based on how much you drive. You'd also have the option of purchasing the car at lease maturity, so you might want to find out what the residual value is on the paperwork.

Of course you have to like the car too, and realize you probably shouldn't modify it while it's on lease, since it's basically not your car.

I dont know if the payment is "good" or not, since I haven't run the numbers, but that payment sounds about what it should be.
