You can replace the AC Vents with a little storage department!

reisf could you please post a picture or two where the center console meets the dashboard right now without a fix you're gonna do?

Since you have both. You should find out if we can retrofit the 3 series armrest into the 1. I think that would be a mod worth pursuing. The 1 is as hard as a brick.

THIS!

I don't mind the entirety of my console, but a better arm rest w/ more internal room and those pop out cup holders would be neat.
And the padding / comfort! Look at that 3 series one. It looks as comfy as a pillow compared to the 1 series.

The arm rests are more less the same in terms of softness if you pressed them with a finger. However it feels completely different. It is a lot more sturdy, supportive and just generally more comfortable. Its also a little bit higher so it feels more natural. And the drivers side arm rest slides forward too - loving that feature

I love the sliding armrest in the E91. It's so good that even the new 3 Series doesn't have one...

I'm actually surprised that it fits, too.

By idrive do you mean the controller? The CIC (professional navigation) controller is exactly the same in every car, so yes i used my old controller. You will just need a suitable trim for it + plastic bracket that screws into the trim. It's the polished aluminium part, if your getting it from a wreckers make sure they throw the bracket in too.

Here's a glamour shot You can sort of see a bit of plastic that goes around the controller

Ok so I shit you not, I had a dream on how to fix the line up issue at the front. Swear to god this came to me in a dream. You need the footwell plates from an e90 as well - these are the trim panels that screw into the footwells and sit under the glove box and steering columns. Kind of makes sense, no?

I got the panels today ($20) and they line up pretty well, but I've run out of daylight. Will update when I'm done.

I didn't try it, but i don't think it would. The 3er's arm rest is a different size and shape, so if you were to place it on on the 1er's center console, it wouldn't line up with the storage compartment (that bit the flips open) and it has a different hinge mechanism.

Bump for pics of the foot well plates installed.

I was looking for a 1er center for an idrive retrofit, but they're hard to come by.

That didn't quite work out, the 3er's dash board is slightly longer and the footwell plates stuck out a little bit when aligned with the 1er's. But what i did was cut off the front of my old console (From in front of the ash tray) and mount that to the dash board. Then i just slid the new centre console over it and that gets rid of the gaps and kind of looks decent. If you don't look at it, you would never notice.

I'll get some pics up soon.

You could go one step further and shorten the length of the 3er console at the front by 1cm and then glue it (maybe liquid nails?) to the front of the old console and it would look perfect! But i'm quite happy with the way it is, and unless you look at it with a magnifying glass, you won't notice it at all.
