He went thru great pains to say that:

1.) They value the almighty M - are are wary of watering it down
2.) M cars are not just a copy of the normal one with some shocks/springs/big motor/fancy seats.

Regarding the second point, he had slides that he showed that show that 80% of the exterior of the e90/e92 M3 are unique to the M3, and as for suspension, there's only one rear gusset on the new M3s that are shared with regular sport suspensioned 3's. Everything else is re-engineered from the ground up. Electronic systems are totally different, as well as driveline.

He mentioned the MT comparo M3/C63/?? where he said they said that the M3 was the only car that felt like a true sports car, and the other two felt like sedans wanting to be sporty....

Stick with, or update, the N54 and extract a little more power from it. The key to a good M1 is not gobs more power, but lighter weight and a more aggressive setup.
You answered.

I'd trade up in a heartbeat.
Jeremy, I had to laugh a bit when I read this post.

Two years ago Steve Jobs was adamant that they do not want to be in the tablet business, Obama was going to everybody out of Afghanistan and Iraq, and there was going to be national healthcare in the US by now. Not to mention "til death do us part" being commonly abandoned.

Time changes things. I agree it's fun to reflect, but when Jeremy wrote that, there were extremely limited upgrade options for the 135i.
