Exclamation /// M1 still under consideration! (per Larry Koch - BMW M-brand manager)

check out this Q&A from m3post
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133368

"Will there be an M version of the 1 series?
He's [Larry Koch] always looking at it, but he doesn't know what engine to put into it. They are considering it but he can't tell us at this point."

What engine you guys think they should stuff in there?

Stick with, or update, the N54 and extract a little more power from it. The key to a good M1 is not gobs more power, but lighter weight and a more aggressive setup.

I agree. A factory tune to about 350Hp, with some lighter materials, better tires, brakes, and suspension would put it right where I would want it.

I'd trade up in a heartbeat.

Should the M1 (based upon the 1er) ever be produced, it wouldn't hesitate a moment to own one.

I've owned an E46 M3, and that ride was perfect. The new M3 is in a different ball game with it's size and weight. Feels as though BMW enlarged it, weighted it, and in turn was forced to increase engine size and cylinders. Bigger isn't always better.

The 1er goes back to the roots. Classy with a touch of luxury, with the focus on performace and driveability. Having an M1 would bring the whole whole M division back to its roots. Go for the M1 BMW!

the N54 is not an ///M division engine, they would never use it in an ///M branded car.

I say put the new M3's S65 V8 in the 1'er if they insist on making an ///M car out of it.

Give the 1 all the components from the ///M3, including the motor, and I'd rock it.

Yep, I agree with spudwest 100%.

A little more power, much less weight, and a tighter more aggressive chassis and suspension. Let's get back to what the ///M originally stood for!

Disagree completely.. The 1 is supposed to be throwback.. Why not cut weight and throw a high revving TT 4 cylinder in there.. true M style. Leave the V8 to the M3. I wouldn't mind that "11,000rpm redline" engine that was rumoured.

take the 3.2L from the Z4 M Coupe (which is an M Engine) and turbocharge that sucker...

not much more added weight so you can keep the car balanced.
Put in a REAL LSD, a dual clutch tranny, and all the pretty bits (body kit, quad exhaust, etc) and you have yourself a winner!

I agree with you both--that sounds pretty freaking good!

If there was a little difference in body, like the E92's flared fenders compared to the normal E92, that would be a nice added touch.

Such a car would be a MONSTER!

Sign me up..

135tii with 350hp tune, 1 more stiffer suspension setting and I am in.. LSD and CF roof (those 2 options would make it an M).. And add DSG as an option for those who want it.. 2010 model please..
Rumors that next gen 335Tii will get that 350hp tune.. I hope 1 gets it as well soon..
Personally I think 135Tii would suffice 99% of folks out there..

High reving 4 cylinder would be good.
Extract at least 300hp from it naturally.

weight should be about 3000lb even or less.

No need for 6 piston brakes. Instead focus on lighter rotors, rims.

Recaro seats plz! I need to wear my helmet.

I highly doubt the M1 moniker would be used. But we do know BMW is on the edge and toying with the idea of a "Perfromance 1 Series".

I agree. But not with the HP numbers. Dinan is getting 404hp out of their stage II kit. BMW would have to release the TII variant with 375hp/450ft-lb of torque.

Secondly, offer the new semi-mechanicsl LSD, M-DCT, lightweight rims & tires, lightweight suspension (tuned), Twin oil coolers, lightweight exhaust, CF where possible, drilled roters, etc.

Make the car perform better in every category, and able to be thrashed for 5 hours strait on a road coarse.
