This is interesting, if they come out with a M1 I may just get back into another 1 unless its the same N54 engine. Another inconsistency worth noting is why introduce the M model so late in the model cycle. The new 1 series will be out in Europe in a year. Although 1 coupe was just introduced 2 years ago I can't see them continue to sell the coupe for another 4-5 years.
I would put big dollars down that it won't be called an M1. "Supersports" sounds badass IMO, too.

The price diff should be similar to that of a base 3 and the Performance Package of yesterday years. BMW will not price this too close to a base M3. It would be an utter failure. They sure remember what they had to do to move the Z4M's off the lot.

The birdies are saying it will have things not available in the Performance catalog. I wonder what that could be.

Why for heaven-sake would it also have a CF roof, vented and cross drilled brake discs and ultra low profile rubber and wheels from an M3 CSL. This has all the making of an M1 test mule.

Question is, what's the engine?
+1

CF, Vented/cross would imply a form of M car. M coupe also gets my vote. Wonder what engine they will stick with.

Whatever it is, hopefully it's got a LSD, lighter weight, and more power.

I would sell my 335 for that too

More power? What for? Lighter weight, LSD, No RFT, would make the car a screamer with its stock engine.

im for it; since im new to the forum thing; how long do you guys think, from seeing these spy shots and many others, it would be until the production model reached the U.S. based on the progress you see now?

it's the high performance run-out model of this gen 1 series. it will heavily utilize lightweight materials(carbon fiber etc,) and feature a power bump over the 135(very likely the 326 or so hp version of the n54). this model has been discussed by scott27 at gcz.com.

If it is a similar concept to CSL, then they will likely be implementing lighter materials, similar to those on the M3. Possibly a very light hood, plastic quarter panels, carbon fiber roof. And the obvious, lighter wheels. I really do hope that car makes it to the US market.

The F20 will debut (3/5 door hatch) 18 months before the current coupe is sent out to pasture- this will be a performance edition to keep the interest up and current (much like the ZHP on the E46).

This will be a CSL like car- not badged CSL (possibly Csi or tii). This will preview the Super Sports edition that will be introduced in the next generation and be the high end coupe model.

The performance and lightweight components on this car will not be options on "regular" models and will not be based on BMW Performance accessories.

Testing currently is a CF roof, hood, and trunk- Special lightweight (BBS) wheels, new highly bolstered seats and Light Weight glass. Engine is still TBA and in testing.

I think with Audi releasing the TT-RS and RS3, this something like this would be a logical competitor IMO.... With the imminent release of the next generation 1er, BMW want to ensure that existing customers don't go to it's competitors who have raised the bar in the performance stakes.
