For the E46 M3 CSL, I believe BMW lost 185kg, which is 407 lbs. I'm sure someone can verify this number - but what I'm getting at is that it's very easy for BMW to drop 200-300 lbs for a limited edition racer...

Ask yourself this question - would you buy the supersports if it came without a radio, A/C and rear seats? I personally wouldn't, because I need at least the A/C and rear seats...
can anybody chime in on that? that would provide significant insight to any weight saving speculation
edit: although we would be further speculating into a car design based on numbers from a car that didnt ever make it to US anyway

speaking of not going to make it here, 123d supersport > *

The number I quoted (185kg) came from memory. Here is what I've found on the web:
http://www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/vehicles/road/cars/bmw_m3_csl.html
http://www.supercarsite.net/bmw/e46-m3-csl/2003
http://www.exoticcarsite.com/pages/bmw_e46_m3_csl.htm

You get the idea...

They all list around 1385kg/3054lbs. The US Spec E46 m3 was listed at 3415 lbs if I'm not mistaken. So perhaps the drop was 360 lbs, not 407. Anyway, it was significant.
