I'm excited about the possibilities with this car
Looking at the nearest cars in price and in purpose, and unfortunately only in a USA context, these are my thoughts:
Wrx sti 35+ Evo 35-45 S4 48-60 370z 30-40 135i 37-40 M3 58-70 •N54 perfectly sufficient. it's going to be most interesting what happens under the hood because the rest is pretty obvious I think •Ride quality only needs to be comfortable enough •Noise somewhat quiet enough •DCT option •LSD •Bit tougher looking (buldges and wider) •Brillianty precise, communitive steering and chassis. This is the most important obviously. •Replace some heavier components with expensive, lighter components 43k base and 45k with a dct. 5k less than an s4 and 5k more than the comparative super sport Japanese compacts This what I'm dreaming of. |

Or a direct link to the article.
Great find, Mad. New info, but likely based off of info we've been talking about for a month or so now, I'd imagine. Still good to see other auto-rags buying into it.. and it has me wondering about sourcing the Diff off of a M3 in the future. |

This new M1 sounds like a little beast!! In power terms it sounds like a 135i with JB3 pumping out an extra 100hp and 100nm torque but it has less weight too!!
400bhp and 370lb ft of torque and 70kg less weight?? That's amazing!! |

Meh, I was expecting more but seems like the article has mentioned it was more of a business decision than engineering one. Sell more cars. Just like the X6M and X5M. Barring more details, You really can achieve the same effects with JB3, Quailfe LSD, for less to compensate the voided warranty.

More choice is always a good thing esp with M3 getting bigger in dimension and the M SAVs. The little 1M would restore some lost territory in my opinion. I am going to hold off on doing the Power Kit and wait for this little beast

Ha, the question is which will show up first, if either.

I really doubt that, M3 LSD > Quailfe LSD (Reason: Dedicated aftermarket LSD can't be worse off than OEM mass produced LSD) M3 Suspension > KW3 + Upgraded Anti-roll and Arms (Reason: many DE M3 driver upgrade their precious suspension) Maybe with all the mods you are within few thousand of factory build but the point is you dont have to wait. You can get close to 70kg with a stripper. I am still on the side line for the new baby M, if its the same N54 engine forget it, I am getting the new Cayman in 2 years and if not I will wait a year and see if any major problems surfaces on this M. |
