I took PCD on 19 Aug. Information as of that day was that PC did not have and could not get the 1M-specific (orange stiched) mats, regardless of whether the dealer had requested them specifically or not (mine did on numerous occasions ahead of my delivery date; I've seen the emails). Good luck.

Thanks for the help!

To answer my own question. The CA sent the email on Monday and on Thursday they emailed him back. The following information is from the email they sent the CA. He was good enough to forward it to me in its entirety. First, they didn't bother with the dates he requested. They sent him one date which is the 'earliest available'. Email stated that date is guaranteed for three days then passed to someone else if not reserved. Also stated you can request up to 3 other dates up to 10 working days of the original assigned date. I submitted the 4 Fridays after the earliest avail date. 3 of the 4 were not available. Fortunately one was. Technically its 11 working days after the assigned date but I guess they will slide on that.

Here is a copy/paste from the email they sent my CA:

Floor Mats
Carpet floor mats that match the BMW’s interior carpet color will be automatically installed in all vehicles that do not ship from the factory with mats. By submitting the reservation for your customer to take delivery at the BMW Performance Center, you authorized carpet mats to be installed in your customer’s vehicle and your center’s Parts Department account will be debited for the cost of the mats.

Can anybody who has done PCD offer a typical schedule of events for the day?For example, does everybody take "delivery" of their car at the same time? My wife and I will be making the trip with a 9 month old, so I'd like to be able to take delivery with her and do the track stuff with my brother. I'm sure BMW will frown on that or just prohibit it completely, but I'm hoping to give it a shot either anyway...

I just got home...2 days and 850 miles after my PCD. The day goes something like this:

7:00 - Breakfast on your own and the Marriott
7:40 - Shuttle leaves for PC
8:00 - PCD begins with bag storage and roll call
8:15 - Instructor info and classroom
8:30 - Track Time (ABS exercise, road course/lines, skid pad, hot lap)

Around 10:30 the group breaks in half- half do delivery before lunch and half do the factory tour and off road course in the X5. Everyone meets up again around noon for lunch, and then the groups swap.

I would think you could easily do the track time with your brother, and delivery with your wife, although I don't think BMW will feed everyone. Ask Bonnie or Donnie first thing to make sure...but they should be able to accommodate a request for delivery after lunch, so that your wife could come at 1300 for the delivery.

I did my PCD yesterday, and the car was delivered with the orange stitched floor mats. I asked, and they said all cars are delivered at the PCD with mats, and the cost is billed to your dealer. The delivery specialists were not sure if it required a special request from your dealer to get the orange 1M mats, but it sounds like asking your dealer to request them specifically can't hurt.

Excellent info, thank you. FWIW I spoke with PCD last week and they actually offer an "PC experience" for $150 which is basically everything mentioned above except pickup of your new car. Only about 4 hours and less involved than driving school for sure, but still an interesting option.

So in effect, if you don't want to wait to get your car or drive home in bad weather, you could schedule it sometime in the summer and road trip to NC and get the general experience?

Yes, although I didn't get the impression that there's quite as much on-track time or instruction as you would get with a new car delivery. The PCD rep described getting to "take out" a few BMWs on the track, but didn't sound like there was skid pad, etc. After M school and PCD, this sounds like the least involved experience in terms of seat time. But definitely still a bargain (especially since you don't have to shell out for Mschool or a new car!)

Thanks a lot for this information! I am looking to take a few family members with me to do my PCD and was looking for options (lower cost) to include people. If you have a link or more information of the so called "PC experience" i would appreciate any information..

License plates

I don't remember seeing this before.

What are people doing about plates to get back home? I live in TX, the dealership is in NY but I'm picking up the car in SC. Also, I will be paying taxes in my own state at the DMV not to the dealership.

Just wondering what others are doing?

Not sure about the plates, but I believe the PCD will place temp plates on the vehicle. Also, I purchased mine from Columbus, GA and they are including the sales tax for Illinois (based on county) in the purchase because I'm financing. If I paid cash, then I would settle the tax with my DMV when I return to Illinois.

Hopefully this helps a little.

You need to get temp tags from your dealer before you leave. I live in IL, bought in MO and picked up in SC, and the dealer had to give me MO temp tags to take along. As above, I will settle the sales tax with the DMV this week when I take the title and register for plates.

Here is what the PCD department sent me, it should throw some more light and help folks that haven't done one yet.

Did you specifically request those mats? At PCD? At your dealership? Anywhere?

I did specifically request them from my dealer at the time of my order.

As stated earlier, PCD installs the floormats in every car they deliver and they are automatically charged back to the dealer. Here is a copy paste of an email from the center to my ca:

Carpet floor mats that match the BMW’s interior carpet color will be automatically installed in all vehicles that do not ship from the factory with mats. By submitting the reservation for your customer to take delivery at the BMW Performance Center, you authorized carpet mats to be installed in your customer’s vehicle and your center’s Parts Department account will be debited for the cost of the mats.

That doesn't specifically say '1M' floormats but since those are the ones that come in US cars, that's what they install.

I assumed that meant plain black mats, not the orange stitched mats. Good news to me

Car just entered 150 status today and the PCD date they assigned me is in November which seems rather late. Would I get my car sooner by having it delivered to the dealership or is that the soonest the next boat comes?
