Possible to use the compressor for regular topping off of tire pressure as well -- or is it annoyingly only possible to use it via the 12v dc lighter socket, and it's slow and perhaps not as accurate as one would like for such purposes?

Does the "slime" ever expire and need to be replaced (assuming one seldom ends up using it)?

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use the air compressor for normal tire inflation. I have never tried it though. This entire kit is brand new never used. As for the expiration of the slime I cant find any expiration date.

I would expect it to last for a very very long time....... I mean the ninja turtle are still around after all this time

Cool. Does the compressor have an option to use a wall outlet or only a 12v DC power source?

It's a 12v motor so it wont work with 110v.

I have this kit as well. I use the compressor for track and auto-x purposes.

It takes good 2-3 minutes to pump up the tires from 0psi to mid 30s.
It took significantly longer I would say 5-8 minutes when I had a flat tire and it was in low 20s outside. (or maybe it was the cold)

I've also used it to pump up air mattress at camp sites or various balls or inflatable items such as kids pool. really loving it and I find many uses for it. The bag itself is sturdy enough and keep everything nice and neat. As bonus points it has a velcro on one side so it doesn't slide around in trunk.
