As this is my first BMW, I was wondering if it's worth it to join the BMV Car Club of America. My dealer highly recommends it, however, I'd appreciate any feedback from seasoned BMW drivers as to it's worth. What exactly do you get for the subscription?

I joined BMW CCA when I bought my first BMW back in 2002. First of all, the monthly magazine (Roundel) is worth the annual membership fee alone. It has lots of informative articles and hands down is more engaging than all the other BMW specific magazines out there. Close second is Bimmer Magazine.

But, whats really great about the club is the members. Go to any local chapter event and you will see this first hand. I also encourage you to sign up and do a Driving School with your local BMW CCA chapter. You will learn so much more about the car and yourself on the track. Its a safe and fun environment to really see what these machines can do.

Other than that, you get 10% off parts at any BMW dealership. After a years membership you get rebates on all BMW cars purchased either new or CPO. If you was a member a year ago, you would have recieved $500 off on that shiny new E90. Many vendors also offer discount to BMW CCA members.

On top of that often BMW NA invites BMW CCA members to special events for members only. For example, the LA chapter was invited as special guest to the Los Angeles International Motor Show. We get to talk to the M brand manager about whats coming down the pipe. The first viewing of the new E60 M5 in the US was at a BMW CCA event, the national annual meet called Octoberfest held in Southern California last summer. I have personally met Bill Auberlin and Borris Said (Both PTG drivers) on numerous occasions through CCA events. I have driven in autocross against TC Kline himself...of course he spanked everyone! Anyways, there are lots of cool benefits to joining this club.

No I don't get a commision for this. Just an enthusiastic member!

the magazine's worth the 30 bucks,

but the rebates pay for the membership even if you only buy a car every 500 divided by 40 years

some models have rebates of 2000, like the 7

No...you must be a member in good standing for 1 year before you are eligible for the rebate.

I've been a member for some time. The Roundel is a good mag. These guys are BMW hardcore enthusiats(sP?). Not some wannabe slap on mods/aerokit 20 somethings who think they know everything.

By the way, it is NOT true that you can get a discount at any dealership for parts. Many mail-order BMW dealers (like Pacific BMW & Circle BMW) DO NOT honor BMWCCA discounts. This is mostly because they are already wholesale. And some just don't honor it period.

The E90 is the only BMW I like in the current product line.

Even in the August Road & Track, they stated that the E90 is the best looking car currently in the BMW line.

For what it's worth, I also follow the Audi boards, and 80-90% of the people over there hate the new Audi styling too. I was torn myself, and I admit that the e90 no longer looks as "exclusive" as it used to. Mostly I think this is because the competition is so much better now, not because the BMW is so bad.

I personally like the e90 styling. I'm not blown away by it, and there are aspects of the styling I don't like, but on the whole, it is a good design in my opinion.
